Don't forget to stop all direct deposits, cancel all credit cards that you're on, and clean out the bank account before she gets to.

Can you draw the papers up?

You can print the forms yourself off your county website, including one that says you can't afford it, which will make the entire thing only cost $50. This is if she doesn't contest anything, of course.

OP, don't hire a lawyer if you can avoid it. Complete waste of money, especially since you don't have kids.

Yep, cancel any insurance that is in both your names, utilities, etc. I had a nice 20k warchest tucked away and cut bills almost immediately by $700 a month when I was informed my services were no longer required. It was nice to have that there in case things got nasty(luckily they didn't).

Did mine for $6. The cost of copies at the law library. Didn't spend another dime.

I've been very happily married a long time (probably as long as anyone else on this board) and nobody will likely pay attention to my advice, but here goes. If I found out my wife lied about being out of town and was in a motel with another guy, they might as well be fucking their brains out, cuz it wont matter to me. She's gone. Thirty-plus years...G-O-N-E. Would it hurt? Yeah. Would I get over it? Yeah.

Find solace in the fact that it sounds like you're the best she'll ever have. Take all that effort you were willing to put forth and find someone who is willing to do the same. In the mean time you got a wedding band and a sob story to use on a long line of skirts.
