The wood on my 18 ft car hauler has rotted out and needs replaced this spring.

Does anybody work at a place that can modify this trailer to a diamond plate metal floor? I am thinking some bracing would be needed, the metal deck, and 4 d rings. It is an 18ft with no dovetail.

I know some frame work would be needed because there would be rougly 1.75-2" gap from what the wood rest on to where the plate would need to be. I haven't taken the wood off yet to come up with a full game plan yet.

FYI diamond plate floors are pretty slippery.

setting it up for diamond plate floor wouldnt be that hard, metal supermarkets sells the diamond plate...and anything else youd need

I would do it myself but don't have access to a plasma cutter or a welder.

I think I might add a brake axle while I am at it also. I got 6 years out of the painted wood trailer. It was $850 brand new. So I have been happy with it so far.

I might be interested in that job. You would need to buy the materials. (i have found that Wylie steel usually has a good deal on the diamond plate). PM me if you're serious. I can quote it and send you a link to some of my work. I am not certified, but I can weld very well.

Grimpala and dcs13 send me some information on what you can do and an estimated quote. I am looking at doing this around February. I live in Ovilla (just south-east of Cedar Hill) but can bring trailer to you.

I still have not made up my mind on whether to modify the trailer or just put some new wood on it. So an estimated price will help me make the decision.

Somebody at work just told me about this wood like material that Home Depot has. It comes in the same dimensions as regular wood, looks, cuts, and drills like wood. It is an extrusion of some sort that does not rot.

Yes, he was really talking it up. Any opinions of using this for trailer decking?

i have seen it there. its for decks and such. not sure how strong it is though. and if i remember correctly it was kinda pricy. personally i would get the quotes to have the metal done.

If I could get the information on it I could calculate if it could hold the distributed weight. The bad thing about metal is the weight and the sagging.

Are you not considering Aluminum Diamond Plate?
That's not heavy at all.
