        Happens all the time. That was an exceptionally large one, but I regularly see people with 20-100k in revolving debt. The higher the credit score, the more often it happens, usually.

            So as long as they keep paying their minimum and jumping through hoops to make it look like they are responsible, they keep going further and further in debt.
            I would say declining was an obvious choice.

                  It's possible she had a higher income at one time. Could have been the spouse of someone wealthy. A lot of time what will happen is people will pay their credit cards very well and the balances increase time and time again. Eventually they just go ape shit and max them out.

                  • I imagine my credit score is quite low. I haven't had a late payment on anything since 1994, but my debt to income ratio is poo.
