Clean formatting and font, then work hard on all the experience parts. I THINK most people read all your experience first (I do) and then I take a look at education/certifications.

Of course, that may change for jobs that require specific levels of education - however, it should not even get to the decision makers if those requirements are not made.

Remember, people are generally scanning it. So the font IMO is really a big deal. You don't want it all fancy/old fashioned looking (i.e. that western crap) as it requires focusing and at a glance things maybe missed that would appeal to a potential employer.

I like Tahoma. I saw a gentleman's resume that was written in Comic Sans MS. I was in complete awe that such a thought could even cross someone's mind. That shit is called comic for a reason.

Yup...Tahoma, Arial and the Calibri (sp?) are good ones. I used Arial but have switch to Tahoma as well.

Had to test out Comic Sans right now - There is worst, but I would not use it.

Thanks, they actually list a DOD/Military Security must possess Secret Clearance job that I applied for. Their application is actually comical with the felony questions etc. I have a feeling they are not going to be paying what I am needing but I am gonna give it a shot. "salary range" = OPEN.

You mean there is another font besides Arial 10/11?

                  Resume Writing

I have owned and operated a small Personnel Service for over 20 years. I used to write resumes for clients. I don't do it anymore because of all the resume programs out there. For about $30.00 you can buy a software package that will do the set up, margins, fonts, ect. I think they are worth the money because of the ease of use. I think there is even a template in the Micro Soft Word package. The actual resume programs even have suggestions as to how to write and suggest proper wordage. Remember too that most big companies scan resumes and pick up on key words that they filter out as search criteria. If you were applying for a medical clerical position for example, mentioning an understanding of CPT Codes and other insurance terminology would help your resume be "Searched out" from all the ones in the system. Just my 2 cents worth. Good luck in your search.

The trick to a good resume is to lie your ass off.

The way you win an auto scan is simply to add the key words in or implied by the job description. It can actually get you looked at more than the prior method if you know how to tailor.
