This is all widely available in academic texts.

You can say what you want about hemp not being the same as the weed we smoke, but hemp's versatility and strength as a commercial fiber is a large part of the reason why marijuana is illegal today. Attaching hemp to its cannabis counterpart was simply the easiest way to get the public to respond negatively to products made of hemp fiber.

Combine that with William Randolph Hearst, one of the pioneers of yellow journalism that lacked all semblances of truth, and his vehement campaign to criminalize marijuana and you've got a nice little recipe for a criminalization based on absolute shit.

And furthermore, even after tossing all of that out if you really don't believe any of it, are you going to sit here and try and tell me that our founding fathers would support laws in this country which regulate what we can and cannot put in our bodies as citizens? That's outlandish.

Pretty sure most of the paper used back then was made from Hemp & im sure our founding fathers would be turning over in their graves if they knew that it is not outlawed, BUT NOT FOR LONG!LOL

Sounds like you never opened a history book after high school.

But pot? ive never met a pothead that harmed himself or others when high, and pot heads dont kill for drugs, they share it. i dont see any problem with it.
But he started with pot, right?

edit:to answer your questions; There are many people who have never done the job that you have chosen to do, that have experienced many facets of life. Continually discounting others experience or worth due to them not being leo's will only separate you from honest discussion and understanding even further than you currently are.
I had friends in HS that smoked pot, even saw one go apeshit after smoking a joint laced with something that wasn't in the "deal". We almost had to take him to the hospital, but he didn't want his folks to find out why he had to go there.

I was around some guys that smoked a little week in the Marines.

I would call those people functional.

My friend that smoked pot has had 2 DWIs, and has been through some hard times. Is he a bad person? No. His life has taken a turn for the worse, but is it because of his own hard luck, or the choices he made as a young adult?

Then there are people that start out with pot and go to meth, crack, heroin, etc. I've dealt with people that have lost their home due to children becoming addicted and then the parents (stupidly) using the house for legal cost collateral and then the offspring running off to keep doing drugs leaving the family home lost.

Every experience with drugs I have seen has been negative, so I am admittedly biased.

Really, Matt? In high school, we learned about George Washington, and many others growing hemp back in the day. You do know marijuana was legal up until prohibition, right?

I get why you're biased against drugs. Pot isn't a 'drug', and shouldn't be classified as such.

I get all that, but I personally know CEOs of multi million, and even billion dollar companies that smoke pot. There are JUST as many people on the flip side of what you've seen, but you never get exposed to that, because they are discrete, intelligent, and don't get caught.

                    Matt --

"Make the most you can of the Indian Hemp seed and sow it everywhere," wrote Washington in 1794.

"What was done with the seed saved from the India Hemp last summer? It ought, all of it, to have been sewn again; that not only a stock of seed sufficient for my own purposes might have been raised, but to have disseminated the seed to others; as it is more valuable than the common Hemp," Washington wrote.

Hemp paper was used for the first draft of the Declaration of Independence. The U.S. Constitution was reportedly written on hemp paper. And Betsy Ross created the first American flag with hemp fabric.

Washington's contemporary Thomas Jefferson, an avid amateur scientist and naturalist, also took an interest in hemp.

"Hemp is of first necessity to the wealth and protection of the country," wrote Jefferson.

That's all from a non biased website.

Never heard of colonists smoking weed until this (or the old board) place.

Have you ever looked at the defintion of "drug"?

Alcohol is THE gateway drug. Who doesn't use alcohol as their first substance? Doesn't mean you're gonna go out and buy some coke afterwards.

And let me tell you, I'm waiting on that day.

I'm tired of going over to Chili and Leah's, ringing the doorbell, announcing my presence and hearing all the movement before I'm allowed to come in.

For some reason the house always smells like air freshener
