You really have to ask? And you're a cop? Lol It's not illegal if they are properly seated in a car seat/booster or seat belt. The only thing you have to worry about is the air bag. In most single cab trucks, you can use the key to turn it off on the dash somewhere or depending on the age of the truck, it may have an automatic sensor (done by weight) and it will automatically turn off the airbag if someone sitting in the seat is under a certain weight.

If there's ever a back seat, children under the age of 12 have to be in the back seat and any child under 8 has to be in at least a booster seat.


If there's only a front seat, then they're required to be properly restrained in their car seats/ booster seats depending on age/size ... definitely NOT illegal.

actually 12 is just a recommondation. Its not illegal to have ur 8 yr old in front seat. I didnt know this either till I called traffic monkey. Hes also part of the car seat task force. Yes, lol there is such a thing.

Ahhh then I was lied to when an officer "let me go with a warning" about my then 10 year old being in the front seat with his seatbelt properly fastened. He said "it doesn't matter....under 12 goes in back or get a ticket next time"

but u got a "warning" thats not a dick move! Anywho, I thought it was illegal as well. But if the kid is seatbelted in then hes cool. Since I wasnt completed sure, I have never stopped for that in 5 years of patrol. Thank god for those ticket happy traffic officers and there infinite wisdom.

I thought the front seat rule was more based on weight then age... If that's the case my son will never get out if the back seat...
