It truly is, but my experience is that it's better than dial-up over all and is useful when you have no other real choices. The latency is drastic though, jesus. Even the military crap I've been exposed to was the suck. No online gaming for satcom users.

How about this...Wild Blue? Is it worth a damn?

We had it for several years. Its better than dial up but very picky with weather conditions. It's more sensitive than dish cable service is.

Wild Blue or Hughes Net, have satellite but I think it is pretty pricey.

And power whores... sat com is a one way deal, transmitting back to the sky takes a lot of power. Would require a genset.

One of my co-workers uses satellite, I think he gets 1MB down (it is tiered). And I am pretty sure he pulls the same amount bandwith I do, which can be as high as 12GB/day. Usually only half that, but he has never been without a connection that i know of.
