Knowing a good thing when they see it, Hollywood produced its own version called "Quarantine." Stick with the original.

                        I was going to suggest this one too... This scared the shit out of me when I was 21 and watched it on UPN one afternoon!

                        I liked The Strangers.. both Paranormal Activities and actually enjoyed Devil. Most new horror movies start out with a great idea that just fizzles. "It" was such a great book but the movie was so-so... the casting was not how I pictured it but clowns are scary as hell in general.

                              One of my all time favs is a movie from '77 or so, called "The Sentinel". Great cast and pretty damn eerie. Not necessarily gorey, but has a good chill-factor.

                                I'd say if I was wanting to freak people out, I'd throw out Hellraiser 1, or Event Horizon. Also another good one was The Descent (good to scare women).
