FORNEY (CBSDFW.COM) – Inaccurate growth projections will cost the Forney school district millions of dollars. The district now has to pay the state back more than $13 million because the funding formula Texas uses has been overestimating how many students were enrolled in Forney ISD.
New district Superintendent Michael Holland says, “Over the last few years before the recession Forney was one of the fastest growing cities in the state and they just left that historical growth for cities (formula) right at that same amount,” and he says that caused the amount the district owes to grow to $13.6 million.
KRLD’s Matt Thomas Reports:
Holland, who brought in auditors that made the discovery, says now they’ve got a 5 year plan to pay the money back that includes identifying spending cuts on things like travel and possibly restructuring the duties of some district employees.
