Next time may i suggest setting your email account, i.e. gmail, to sync calander, contacts, and email.

I've had the same contacts in my phone for well over 11 years, and never lost one of them, unless I deleted it. Started syncing with Exchange, but now I just sync with gmail. As for the iphone/android debate, I'm now on a EVO, and I love the phone, i couldn't se going back to an iphone at this point.

That and I export out my contacts, calendar, etc. to a flash drive for safe keeping fairly regularly.

I got a new phone recently, not an iPhone or android or cyborg or anything, just a regular old phone. I had to tranfer my old #'s because I had to get a new sim card and I had 12, 12 freaking phone #'s, lol. I guess you can tell I don't talk on the phone much
