Actually I was talking about the location of the recycle bin because if it is up near his house, it's a theft.

If it is at the curb, it's considered "abandoned" and fair game. The police can't "escort someone out of the neighborhood" for that, although there has been discussion about recycle bins being considered differently than refuse, that is recycle has a purpose. Some agencies/prosecutors think differently, so it would be best to ask your locals.

Tell your neighbors to NEVER leave big ticket electronic item boxes in the trash. Personally, I always take them to work and throw them in the dumpster there. I don't want anyone knowing I just got a 50" LED, new desktop, game system, or whatever.

I've worked many daytime burglaries where the reason they kicked the door was because of a new TV box outside, and for some reason there are never any witnesses.

Yeah I live in a "fair" neighbor hood. However the upside is there are like seven other officers living around here. We noticed after a certain sack of shit got out of jail many houses in the hood kept getting hit. Soooo we purchased and installed high resolution cameras on a few houses in strategic locations "ours". Next house that got hit we had fantastic color pictures for our quick little homeowners meeting. Next we put them all over the mailboxes in the neighbor hood and put burglar all over them and if you see him call the police. Then we put up a web site and set of you tube videos showing him caseing the house next door to the one he hit, all linked on the flyer. You know it has been a little quieter around here these days. LOL Word gets around you know.
Also I believe in having a big ass dog and a dog door so fluffy can roam were ever she may please. In 9 years I have yet to take a burglary at a house that has a big ass dog and he is able to go in doors. Not saying it wont happen but I doubt any of us "maybe Whoa" has the kinda stuff people are going to fuck with a dog over. People ask dont you worry about having a dog door that big? I figure if you are brave enough to stick your head thru it then go ahead, I am sure my Mastiff wants to say hi.

Just a few of many. This is a DPD cops house he has already hit before..twice. I guess he didnt like the new burglar bars.

He moved on to bigger things after this and wont be around for a while. LOL

I live in a pretty good neighborhood that has had virtually no crime for years and we have had two car break ins in the last month according to my Plano PD source. I'm waiting to catch some of those fuckers prowling my alley so I can remind them that I worship the devil and they won't even find the chunks of them in the lake when I get done.

                          Try this...

I got my truck broken in to (think I might have left the door unlocked though) and some bastid took some items out of it.

Funny thing though, they missed some much better stuff in the arm rest/box.

I'm betting they saw the bullet casings in one of my console dept's and thought about what might be coming at them any moment.

So, leave a few well place bullet's laying out in the open and see if that deters them. Mine were some casings that belonged to CJ after a shoot fest with Matt (03trueblue) and friends. CJ's were some large caliber rifle casings.

A lot of good things have been covered. Leave a tv or radio on during the day to help make the crook think the home is occupied. If you have a home phone, make sure the number is unlisted and as hard to find as possible. I worked a few burglaries where the caller id's on the home phones had several "unknown" or "private" missed calls during the time the homeowner was away.

First off, I really appreciate all the replies. All very good info that I will pass along to my fellow neighbors in my ever growing CrimeWatch group. The security survey sounds like a good start. I will call about that. And the cameras might be a good option as well. As I stated, I've already got all the motion detecting perimeter lights installed. My hedges do not go up above the base of the window on side of the house. Re-enforced dead bolt latches. Gates to back yard have padlocks on them.

Regarding the Recycling bins, they are typically kept up against the garage wall of my house. They only are placed on the curb twice a month as we have bi-weekly pick up. Otherwise, they are always against my garage wall or up against the garage door. Our trash and Recycle bins are both 55 gallons, so they won't fit in the garage with cars, work benches, shelves, etc..This being the same reason most everyone else in the neighborhood keeps theirs outside as well. During the period when our Recycling bins were emptied out they were up against the garage wall at the top of my driveway. And the yard light will come on if you walk onto my driveway. I have the sensitivity turned almost to max.

I do have a dog and a doggie door. However, my Golden is 110% estrogen. She doesn't bark a lot and is not aggressive when people walk by the back fence. A pissed off hamster would make for a better guard dog than her.

We are just concerned at how brazen and bold these guys are to come onto the property, even if it's illuminated or during the daytime. Can't help but to wonder to what extent these people will go to get what they whatever they are looking for. You worry about your wife and family. And it really pisses me off to hear about other people (not myself) changing their routines out of fear. Like opting to stop walking at night.

Oh, one more thing. We have no broken street lights that I'm aware of. And unfortunately, Public Works fixed the graffiti on the stop signs before the PD had a chance to look at them. So, that was kind of a bummer.
