I bought it from one uncle (by marriage), and the truck was the 4 cyl/5spd, with no a/c, and lots of rust. He brought it with him when he moved down here from Alaska after they started building a house. Anyhow, one day it just wouldn't start. It would barely turn over (no start), and made a god awful rubbing sound when doing so. Mitsu dealer wanted $1500 to fix it. I paid $500 for it, and we towed it down from OK. At the time, they were widening the highway on 35 at the TX/OK border. One lane each direction. That truck came off the dolly, and hit the concrete barrier. There must have been 3 miles worth of cars backed up behind us while we were pushing it out of the way.

Anyhow, when I got it home, I fixed all the damage from the accident, and cut the catalytic converter out. Took a torch and hammer to the inside of it, welded it back up, and the truck fired right up after sitting for 7-8 months. That thing got like 28-29 mpg too!

I beat the shit out of that truck, and I never broke one damn thing on it.

My parents promised to match the money I saved towards my first car. My girlfriend's fathere at the time had a '73 Mach1 he wanted to sell. It was in awesome shape, just needed the paint buffed out and a windshield seal. Besides that it was immaculate. He said he would give it to me for $2500.

I had $1800 so that equaled $3600 with my parents match. FUCK YEA... NOPE, my dad was stoked, but my mom put the kybosh on it.

I ended up with a damn Datsun 310GX hatchback 5spd as my first car. I didn't like it, but it was a car, so I didn't bitch a whole lot about it.
