I also had a niiiiice 78 Mustang Cobra II in high school that I wrecked shortly after buying it because I was feeling up a chick in the passenger seat. Hopefully this car doesn't suffer the same fate, although I'm sure it will becuase teenagers can't drive worth a shit. I would never buy my son anything I would be mad to see wrecked

82 Regal here, my stepmom bought it in 84. My dad drove it in late 80's to work, a guy that worked for us used it for a couple years and then it sat on our shop property for a few years. She gave it to me when I was 13 because I liked working in stuff. Jumped it off and drove it to the house on 4 cylinders. V6, dead emerald green, landau (sp) top shot, bumper fillets gone. Ripped the top off, got it running on all six and put some used wheels on it. Wrecked it my senior year coming home in the rain tool out all the drivers side with a h host and a bunch of 5 wire fence. It's the car in my sig and avatar. I learned to hate body work.

My brother bought my nephew his first car last time we were in CA. Brand new Challenger with aftermarket wheels. I think he spent around that same amount ($25k).
If the parent is going to spend that much they are probably both better off with a classic. At least it will not be worth jack shit 5 years from now.

A guy I worked with when I was in high school got a Grabber Blue, 1970 Boss 302 for his first car. This was, I think in 1986, maybe 87. His Dad actually found it in a barn somewhere out between Weatherford and Mineral Wells. He gave $4000 for it. According to the previous (first) owners, it had been sitting since 1978 (last reg/insp was 77). His Dad got it all cleaned up, new belts, hoses, battery, tires, all fluids, etc. Well, he hands the keys to Captain Hamfist and 3 weeks later, it had 2 holes in the block. IIRC, he over-revved it big time. Way to ruin an all original Boss 302 that could easily pull $50,000+ today."It is in truth not for glory, nor riches, nor honours that we are fighting, but for freedom - for that alone, which no honest man gives up but with life itself."
