Problem with Houston Tolls....Need help

Just got a letter yesterday from Houston that I owe them $638 in unpaid tolls. They enclosed a nice little snapshot of my old GMC truck that I traded off about three years ago. The guy that has this truck is a member on here, but I can't remember his screen name. We traded vehicles, my GMC for his Lightning. But now I don't have a clue how to contact him. I know he lives down in Houston.

What can I do about all these unpaid tolls? Can I just call them and let them know that I sold that truck over three years ago? Or am I totally screwed here?

If you didn't fill out the form, and he hasn't transferred the title, you are probably boned. However, if he hadn't transferred it, he would be driving on tags that were expired by 2+ years. That seems unlikely, but not impossible.

Hey I had the same thing happen to me about a year ago.

Call them up and tell them you sold the truck. Provide a bill of sale that dates before the violations where commited and your good. The bill of sale has to have the guys name on it so they can attempt to find him. If he registered the truck hes gonna get that same letter you recieved. Hope this helps.

If he has not transfered the title you can file charges on him. A buyer has 30 days to transfer a title. If by some chance he renewed the registration in your name then thats a fed offense. Either way you can get this taken care of.

I mailed that form, and STILL got a toll bill from them a year later. The guy who bought our car never transferred it and he is a friend of ours. I told him to transfer it, then went onto the website and did it electronically.
