So....hypothetically speaking....if that space garbage plowed into my car or my house....I could sue NASA for damages right? They knew it was up there....hell they put it there...and they KNEW it was going to crash back into earth.

NASA gives 1-hour window for falling satellite

(Update: 11:23 pm) CAPE CANAVERAL, Florida - NASA is narrowing the timeframe on when a 6-ton satellite is expected to collide with Earth.

NASA said late Friday that the satellite is now expected to fall from the sky between 11:45 p.m. EDT and 12:45 a.m. EDT Saturday.
Canada and Africa are in the potential crosshairs, although most of the satellite should burn up during re-entry. The United States isn't entirely out of the woods; the possible strike zone skirted Washington state.

I think that they are intentionally being ambiguous to keep treasure hunters away from the wreckage. From what I've gathered, most of it broke up and fell into the ocean off the coast of Washington, with a few pieces hitting soil.

Had anyone's property (or mother-in-law) been hit, it would be all over the news by now.

The satellite scope has mirrors that were designed and built for extreme heat. These mirrors will break, but most of it will be intact when it hits the Earth. The mirrors will act like a giant blade raining many pieces of glass onto a stretch of over 500 km.

UARS was dangerous due to the heavier pieces, but ROSAT will be dangerous because it will be like throwing knives out of an airplane and not knowing where thousands of these knives will land.
