Do you wave at people on the road to tell them they have a near flat tire ?

100% agree that it depends on what you are driving. When I am in my 252,000 mile beat up creaky, groaning Cavalier, people think I am going to rob them for everything.

Swap to a 1966 Mustang Restomod or even my 05 Scion tC, and they get a lot friendlier! I guess the more "poor" they perceive you to be, the higher chance that person wants to rob you...

Absolutely. I guess they figure "poor" people don't help other people. In all reality, it seems the complete opposite. I've NEVER had someone in an Escalade stop to help me when I was broke down on the side of the road, but I have had an old guy driving a beat-the-fuck-up '70's Chevy pickup stop to see if I need help.

Case-in-point: earlier this year when we were on vacation....traveling through a shitty part of rural Michigan there was some asshole towing a farm trailer in the left lane and he was purposely staying right next to a semi in the right lane so as not to let anyone by....doing about ~55-60 in a 70 zone. This went on for literally about 20-25 miles....caused a huge backup of cars, and I was second in line behind him. When we were finally able to get around him the truck in front of me just shot past him....I pulled up next to him and motioned for him to roll the window down (my wife was freaking out at this point)....he gave me a shitty look as though he thought I was going to bitch him out or something...instead I kindly said "hey Buddy you've got a flat tire on that trailer and pointed back towards it"....he waved to thank me and immediately pulled over to the shoulder.

Well, I usually stop and see if a guy is standing there because he may have a legitimate reason that he can't change a flat. When I hurt my back and had to have back surgery, I couldn't lift more than 10 lbs for quite a while afterwards. Ya never know when someone might have a real reason that they can't lift a wheel/tire, etc. I guess I'm just too trusting sometimes.

I was getting gas one night and a lady was trying to change her flat at the gas pump. I went over and asked if she wanted help and I could tell right away that she was one of those "I'm an independent woman, I don't need a man's help !". She was having all kinds of trouble with the jack, saying the jack was stupid, and she was going to get a new jack ASAP, etc. Well, she wasn't putting all the rods together and hooking it in the end of the jack and rotating it. I put them together and showed her how it worked and she just looked at me like I was an asshole. After changing the flat and putting the wheel/tire in the back of her SUV, I gave her a compliment on changing her tire because my wife would NEVER try to change her flat and she looked at me all surprised. It was like she thought I was changing her flat so I could hit on her. She just gave me a half-hearted "thanks" and got in her car and drove off.

Has anyone else ever noticed that if you're driving an older or beat up vehicle that people don't pull up next to you at stop lights ? When driving my little beat up Sonoma pickup, I notice it a lot more than if I'm driving my wife's car or my dad's truck. They will pull up and stop with their front tires about even with my back bumper. Makes me chuckle a but every time.

People these days. Just seems like people are getting more and more anti-social.

Hell, maybe they just think something is going to fall off my truck and they're hanging back to avoid it. LOL !

I agree with you, except that my screen name hasn't come solely by my own doing. My little red Sonoma pickup was hit by a Plano school bus sitting in front of my house. I can name off almost every single vehicle I've ever owned that has been in some sort of accident and almost every single time has been because of other people's carelessness.

I was driving into town from the house in my 08 Ram 1500 and saw this elderly couple on the side of the road stuck. The old man, come to find out had just had quadruple bipass and couldn't "yank her out by myself the way I could when I was younger". I offered to pull them out and while I was tying on to my truck, the old man tied to his van.

I gave it a gentle pull and heard a ripping sound. The entire front clip came off of their van. He had hooked it to the plastic bumper and I yanked it off. I got them out, and they STILL offered to give me money for helping them. I couldn't apologize enough about the van but he smiled and said "They don't make 'em the way they used to do they son?" Cool old people.
