Unlike your screen name, which contains two words, both of which you managed to misspell. Congrats on your well formed opinion I guess.

Yeah, I know. That's what I'm saying. I have a little over 20 in my 66, and it's a fastback. But it took me 15 years to get it there and did most in my garage. I guess if a shop did all the work it could cost that much, but still. That's a lot of money for a 65-68 coupe.

I was in the game a long time. It still takes dead presidents.

I meant body off restoration, and all the go-fast parts that I'd throw at it. Truth be told, that $40k will most likely go into a C6, only because I don't have a garage to build something in yet.

I do want to build a 60's stang though, the only diversion will be if I can pry my grandad's '68 Firebird vert from my dad's hands.

It was misspelled long ago, I realized later on but its how I spelled it for my gamer tag/handle and I just decided to stick with the spelling. But thank you for pointing it out. You are actually the first person I've none to realize it.

I didn't know Benjamin Franklin was a president =P. Sorry couldn't help it.

It does take money but it still helps doing it your self and having a mechanic friend to help you

Good luck getting the body off.

I hear what you're saying though. I still think you can come in well below that $40K number. A 68 Firebird would be bitchin' too.

I'm totally ignorant to restoration costs, so I was erring on the high side. The firebird was bequeathed to me verbally, but at the time I was wasting money on my '98 GT, so I had to pass. For now it sits, and my dad thinks it's worth a mint.

I'll probably have to make him realize the true value, and buy it from him, but without a garage to put it in currently, it will continue to sit.

When I first moved to San Diego I saw a restored example in the same gold color, and fell in love again. The 326 will get replaced with a 400, and I'm up in the air on a repaint.

He means they were designed better if you use all of the modern parts to resolve the downfalls of the original design. Which is what's going on with my car - 71 on the outside 2011+ on the inside/underhood.

And OP, if your car has breaks you should repair them and then you can call them brakes like the rest of us!
