I grew up driving/owning most of the "muscle cars", among them were 454's, 427's, 428 and 429 CJ's. Truth be known, a new 5.0 Mustang or Corvette would kill about anything I ever owned, and they actually STOP, have cold AC, and turn a helluva lot better, too.

Looks...maybe, but the overall performance isn't even close.

Unless your definition of muscle car is strictly about looks. Muscle cars these days are superior in just about all ways.
That's the "older we get, the better we were" syndrome.

66 & 67 are two different body styles and it would have to be either super-rare, or use some really expensive parts and paint to cost $40K.

You also showed a Corvette, which is neither pony, nor muscle.

I would rather have the cars that we have now than what we've had in the last 30 years before this age of modern RWD 400+ HP from the big 3.

80's was light, fun to drive rattle traps from Ford and GM, 90's was more refined from those two but basically more of the same. Now we have pretty bad ass offerings from all three and they're faster, more reliable, and more comfortable than ever. Knowing that styling will never be like the mid-late 60's again, I'd say things are pretty good now.

Ac, turning and breaks can be simply fixed with a little effort. Those can all be changed

You have a lot to change out on that '68, with it being a 6 cyl car.

If you want a coupe, you damn sure don't need $40K.

I think they might be talking about $40k to drop into a 66 or 67. Like buying body and so forth. Thats why they said building up.

                              Little effort...and a shit-load of money.

The '68 is a restore project nothing to race. The '67 with be the one we restore for racing.
