When your car gets rearended at 70mph, fuel is going everywhere... and your fuel pump has power running to it. You take any car and hit it from the rear at 60-80mph shit is going to go crazy. My neighbor (Waxahachie P.D. officer) was stopped on the side of I-35 several years ago in a Crown Vic patrol car and was rear-ended by a gentleman who was about to get his 7th DWI. The DPS estimated that the car was travelling at 82 mph when it hit him. It put the back bumper against the back of the front seat. He suffered a dislocated shoulder, broken collar bone, broken scapula, severed ferenic (sp?) nerve, and lots of soft tissue damage. There was no fire, thankfully.
