Good feedback, Aaron... I want her to get the 328, but after she saw the performance numbers in comparison, that was a no go. The perks that come along with owning a BMW aren't too shabby at all, so that is appealing as well.

The 1 series is completely impractical for us.

I got a 2011 328i sport wagon demo a few weeks ago. Totally dig it. Obviously it isn't a performance machine like GE's 335i but it is respectable. That said, I would have gone for a 335i wagon if they sold one in the US.

I'm not 100% sure on this but I think BMW's Ultimate Service program is transferable with the car. For the first 4 years or 50K miles you get all your maintenance for free. You can also buy the Maintenance Program Upgrade which pushed it out to 6/100,000miles. Then there are extended FACTORY warranties out to 6/100,000miles. Basically I'm telling you to get a used CPO with low miles and you won't care about the maintenance costs.

I bought mine at Classic BMW and got great service from them. Free car washes, Free loaner car or they'll come pick your car up for maintenance, etc., etc..

I dealt with Paul Payne (214-778-2767 ppayne@classicbmw.com) at Classic. It was easy to work with him and I didn't get any bullshit. Surprisingly, the finance guy was very easy to work with as well. He made the usual add on offers but never pressed after I said no. Financing went by quickly. I'm leasing for 36 months.

I feel like I'm driving one of the most unique cars in DFW. There are only a small handful of these wagons to begin with an most of them are not in this color scheme.

Not to discount your entire post, but this is exactly what I plan on doing. Thanks so much!

Well, there is a 75hp difference, and with a chip and intake you can make 400hp. It's essentially the same car with turbos, and the sport package. That's the only thing that may sway her, is if the suspension is too firm for daily driving. I dunno if the 335i is available with the standard suspension new, but if it is, it must not be a very common option. Every CPO 335i that I looked at had the sport suspension, seats, and wheels.

If she's is into performance at all though, it sounds like y'all will be getting a 335i, which I highly recommend. The 328i is a great bargain in comparison, and if I had a toy with some horsepower, I wouldn't be looking to replace it. In her case the $5k premium for the 335i is cheaper than some aftermarket turbo kits (certainly Dinan), and comes with maintenance and a warantee. It's a no-brainer, I just wish I had realized this when I bought mine.

Get one with the convenient access package if you can, it's not at all a necessity, but kinda nice not to have to fumble with keys to get in and go somewhere. I'm not sure that I would add it on if I were to be building a new one, but something I will look for in the next one.

Agreed. I have that on the wagon. The only downside is that they don't have remote start. I kinda like having that in Texas.

I love them...great cars, and the 335 is a lot of fun to drive. Only thing I hate are the drink holders....they seem like an after thought the way they fold out of the dash.

I actually like them that way, out of sight until needed, and the way that they hold redbull cans snug, along with full-size drinks.

What year are you thinking about going with? The major problems with the 335i from 2007 - 2009 are with the high pressure fuel pump taking a shit. There are lesser problems on the 2010 and 2011's, but they're still out there. The newest replacement part seems to have cured a lot of the problems, but there are still reports of it not fully rectifying the problem. Even then, if it's warranty, the HPFP part is warrantied for 10 yrs/120,000 miles (on years 07 - 09).

The current body style is e90 which is from '05 to '11. The current '11 is the last model year and the new F30 is just about to ramp up production. I'd be really cautious on buying a CPO car, if you're considering a 335i, these cars typically take a beating. I'd definitely check out e90post.com and read around about all the potential issues people have had, especially issues where people have purchased CPO cars and had problems. Whatever you get, I'd definitely make sure it still has some form of warranty.

To be a little more specific, the E92 got a refresh last year with some exterior changes to the front and rear, LED tail lights, and a few different intereior and exterior color options. They also recieved some motor updates, and make a little more power across the board. It's the same E90 chassis, but looks (opinion) and performs a little better.

The '11 models have the Xenon adaptive headlights, which saves you the trouble of having to convert from halogen. This is the first year of the N55 engine, so the available aftermarket items for performance is rather limited. The jb3 is around $375 and it's supposed to add up to 50hp. COBB has their AccessPort setup, but they're still working on a product for the N55 engine.

Yeah, she's had more Mustangs than I have, so the 335 it is...

Great information and new site to check out. People don't rag on little 4 door grocery getters, do they?!?!?

They seemed to really like my wagon, so I'd say not.

                              What an epiphany!!!

Wife and I went to Classic BMW just to test drive a few 335's (and a 535i) today so she can get a feel of the car she's been wanting.

Upon completion, we get the "sit down" with the sales guy that wants to talk BMW values (and warranty), costs assoc, trade in, etc.

I was scared the wife was going to want to make a deal then and there, but fortunately she said "let me sleep on it" and we went to dinner. At dinner I was hit with the following comment:

"My Jeep has 55k miles on it and I've had it for 4.5 years. It's paid for and I don't want to jump into another car payment just to get a nicer vehicle right now. Get me some new comfy seat covers and a new stereo system and I'm happy with what I have."

                              SCORE!
