I dont believe LEO's write tickets to get bonuses/additional cash, i know for a fact thats not true. HOWEVER, I do know for a FACT that city councilmen put pressure on PD to generate revenue (I.E. tickets) to line their fucking pockets. I fucking HATE city managers. The city manager tried to get me arrested the other day when we had a debate about our property line/the new fucking school that took up 5 acres more then they were supposed to, AND, closed off our only route in and out AND created a new road "for us" that goes into the school parking lot. He got in my face and started yelling at me, and after i didnt back down, called the cops on me. Funny how fast his fucking face shut up when the cops showed up and my wife showed them the video she had been taking on her phone of the conversation. He quickly left, and the cops and I had a long conversation on what a piece of shit that motherfucker is. He gave himself a 50,000 dollar raise this past year, and closed down city programs in order to fund it. But he's a "bible thumper" and all the old retards around here think he's the bee's knees because he's a born and raised local. I hope to god when our case finally goes to court that fucker loses his job.

Way to get the tread off topic, jackass.

Matt. I don't think most cops want to write tickets all day, but when the brass digs into someones ass for not having enough "community encounters" then there's a problem. I'd be willing to bet that most beat cops want to leave the general populace alone, and would rather not always be around watching what people are doing, seeing if they can give them a ticket or not. They want to be out helping people that need help, even though the Supreme Court says the police is under no obligation to protect citizens.

But then again. I may be looking at the police in general through rose colored glasses, and they're all a bunch of money grubbing assholes. /shrug

I've said this numerous times, there is no quota for patrol officers. I know of guys that write one a month, if even that. When I write tickets, it sure isn't with money in mind, it's to get people to drive legally. My pet peeve is DL and insurance. If you don't have that, you're getting tickets with the hope that you make it right. The court is very good at dismissing tickets if you go get your DL or INS within a very short time of the citation.

Does that include traffic officers, meaning officers specifically assigned to traffic enforcement?

I'm curious as to how many tickets you guys think patrol cops actually write ?
Most beat cops don't write that many at all. I know beat cops that are luck to write 1 a month.
Don't forget, the state takes a HUGE chunk out of any ticket that gets paid..
I say "paid"...you have all the compliance tickets ( the court dismesses if you get your registration or inspection or show insurance,etc...) THen you have the defensive driving and deferred dismissals, or the seatbelt class, or the red light class for dismissal...So after all those options ,I wonder how many actually pay anything?

Last year I was on a jury for a guy that had a CDL that was charged for speeding. The officer that wrote the ticket stated that he had wrote more than 1000 tickets in the 18 months that he had worked for the city. That is one cop, in a town of 70,000, in 18 months.

No. I'm sure that if they wrote one a month they would be reassigned to patrol.

I think most traffic officers write 15 a day.

                        1000 in 18 months = 55.55 tickets per month = 2.77 per day.

That's not that many per day. You can easliy do that in just two stops.

That's kinda my point. I think people don't realize just how few tickets patrol officers actually write...Traffic cops are a whole different ball game.
