And to add to this, I would not say that my retirement is "outlandish". I've earned every benefit I have, and as a matter of fact, you need decent benefit to attract qualified applicants.

Do you really want a PD to get minimum pay and no benefits so that they supplement their income by stealing or taking bribes?

Let's really talk about "outlandish retirement". How about working for 4 years in office and getting 100% retirement for the rest of your life, plus a guard detail? How about taking 5 vacations per year, all on the taxpayer's dime? When I went to the Outer Banks, I paid for my own travel, I sure as hell didn't fly my family on Air Force 1.

The thing that angers me is how the city leaders see the PD as a cash cow. When a marked unit goes in for an oil change, in stead of charging the cost of the change, they charge the PD $75. The excess goes into the General Fund which is a fund that they spend however they want to.

The PD also pays the Boys and Girls Clubs over $100k/year. The "logic" is that if we give those unfortunate kids something to do, they won't be out stealing and dealing dope. When I was a kid, we didn't do bad stuff because our parents would whip our ass.

I like how this has gone from a general discussion to a microscope up my ass.

Denny - nobody is saying the police are writing and passing these new laws. Yes, it's the politicians, with one of the higher ups in the PD giving opinions and direction. But, the police do enforce the laws. And if you think police aren't chomping at the bits to have more of these trivial bullshit laws to give them PC to stop more vehicles, you're insane.

Like the traffic code isn't already jam packed with reasons?

Do you really think I've been waiting for 20 years thinking "geez, if we had one more law that would really open the doors for me to screw with people, I'd be in heaven!"???????

If I want to make an investigative stop, there are more than enough reasons. This one more thing will not be the thing that breaks the dam and causes the flood.

You don't represent all police officers. Just like how you say one bad apple, doesn't represent the rest.

So we should all just give up one more civil liberty, one more freedom. Because just one more is ok. Where does it stop?

If I remember how many days you have saved up, it is excessive. I'm not saying it's your fault...but that is not sustainable to have such a huge financial liability on anyone books. Don't get me wrong...if could do it I would...but there's a reason private industry doesn't allow it.

And you do realize I said all government right? I also never said to pay you minimum wage...stop stretching things to it your case.

We can only get paid for 720 hours when we leave. Any excess you have to use or give back to the city.

Again, it comes to offering benefits to attract and retain qualified people.

Where did I mention hourly wage?
