You don't represent all police officers. Just like how you say one bad apple, doesn't represent the rest.

So we should all just give up one more civil liberty, one more freedom. Because just one more is ok. Where does it stop?

Like the traffic code isn't already jam packed with reasons?

If I want to make an investigative stop, there are more than enough reasons. This one more thing will not be the thing that breaks the dam and causes the flood.

I've been on one vacation this year.

And to add to this, I would not say that my retirement is "outlandish". I've earned every benefit I have, and as a matter of fact, you need decent benefit to attract qualified applicants.

Do you really want a PD to get minimum pay and no benefits so that they supplement their income by stealing or taking bribes?

Let's really talk about "outlandish retirement". How about working for 4 years in office and getting 100% retirement for the rest of your life, plus a guard detail? How about taking 5 vacations per year, all on the taxpayer's dime? When I went to the Outer Banks, I paid for my own travel, I sure as hell didn't fly my family on Air Force 1.

The thing that angers me is how the city leaders see the PD as a cash cow. When a marked unit goes in for an oil change, in stead of charging the cost of the change, they charge the PD $75. The excess goes into the General Fund which is a fund that they spend however they want to.

The PD also pays the Boys and Girls Clubs over $100k/year. The "logic" is that if we give those unfortunate kids something to do, they won't be out stealing and dealing dope. When I was a kid, we didn't do bad stuff because our parents would whip our ass.

I like how this has gone from a general discussion to a microscope up my ass.

Actually, revenue generation through "law enforcement" is a fucking joke these days. It does NOT go into the pockets of the LEOs (whoever thinks that is just flat-out retarded). It is nothing but the mismanagement of these municipalities. These cities get into some financial problems, spending MORE than both the revenue they generate through these taxes, services, fines AND even what is lent to them through these municipal bonds.

    So what is their answer?

Well, if they raise taxes too much, they get voted out. If they spend less, then they can't justify spending as much or more the next year and they can't keep up with "deals" they made to the vendors of that city- which equals business going elsewhere. They can't overly impose fines on violations of the laws and city ordinances (moreso than they are already doing on a ridiculous level).

So they come to an agreement to nickel and dime some more taxation and throw up a few more red light cameras and assign a couple more officers to traffic duty. Then they start new fees associated with emergency services like alarm fees, false alarm fines and being charged for the FD or EMS to show whether they are needed or not. (basically, more taxes)

There are a couple of problems we see now. One- when more revenue comes in, they don't use it to pay down anything, rather use it to justify MORE spending to try to build infrastructure and attract more local business. Two- with all these home owners defaulting on their mortgages, the city is now losing the property tax, the water/sewage/trash collection fees, etc. Banks are either holding out on the process to foreclose so they can mask their losses or just not being able to sell the houses that they do foreclose on. This will cause a dramatic dip on the taxation portion.

Remember the increased spending when they did start generating more revenue? Well, that deficit is now even worse! Guess what happens then? Fewer investors (muni bonds). Now where do they turn to for more revenue generation (besides waiting for their next stimulus handout)? That's right... back to law enforcement.

Stop mother fucking the police, y'all. You guys are barking up the wrong tree. You need to motherfuck these councilmen and city managers. Trust me, the cops aren't the ones driving this, let alone even wanting to do it.
