  • Arlington bans texting and driving today.

    Up to $200 dollar fine.

Now, will it stop people from doing it? I seriously doubt it, just like drinking and driving, it doesnt seem to stop anyone from doing it.

According to the news, you don't have to show them your phone, so how can they prove it? lol.

How do they prove speeding? They don't need any evidence, it's the officers word against yours.

How can they prove you weren't wearing your seat belt? I am glad they did this. Hopefully the rest of the state and the other 49 states follow.
How do we forget ourselves? How do we forget our minds?

It will do nothing but pad the coffers.

You can't get caught up thinking about it that way. That's the narrow minded approach. Think about it this way.. you no longer have the freedom to use your phone for any reason but talking. Ever used the navigation on your phone? You can't pick your phone up and use that anymore. You just gave away another freedom. And on this will piggy back the loss of many more. And, you just voted for a tax increase.

Small price to pay for lives saved. That's the way I think about it.

What if you're on your iPod and not texting? See the problem there. This is going to be very hard to enforce

I am all for it. I ride a motorcycle and I couldn't tell you how many times people cut me off or swerve in my lane then see they are texting and not watching the road. Saying that is you have the right to text and drive is like saying you can speed if you want. It is a law setup for safety of other drivers on the road get over it. If you have something so important to a person CALL them.

My thoughts exactly. I use my iphone for music to my radio through an aux cable. The other issue is you can still use your phone, what if you're scrolling through your contacts to call some one.

Talking and driving is dangerous too.

So does that mean they shouldn't allow bluetooth then? Or you can't talk to yourself in the car anymore? Where is the line?

Yay police state! Shocking how many of you are willingly handing over your rights in the name of "safety". This is no different than the xray/molestation going on in airports in the name of "safety", or the unconstitutional wire taps in the name of "safety". Give them an inch, and they will take a mile. Pretty soon, you've got no rights left. But it's all ok, because it *might* save a life. Because we all know everyone will stop texting and driving, right? Yeah, that's going to happen....
