Officers do not get distracted. They go through training that prevents them from making any mistakes.

I'm pretty sure you can currently pull a driver over for that right now.. failure to maintain lane. What I'm saying is the only reason the city would pass this law is one reason: money. It allows them to ticket people who ARE controlling their vehicle - which they are not able to ticket currently.

        • I think this thread has made it to the point of "we disagree but since I can't persuade you I am going to resort to name calling". You're right I'm wrong you dont see eye level with ne you're an idiot.

Close the thread before it turns into more of a cluster fuck. Oh wait but that may be depriving people from their right of posting and creating threads.

          • All you have to do is put the phone up to your ear and then say you were dialing a number. Dialing a number and talking are not against the law.

Law will be impossible to enforce correctly. None the less, they will still issue tickets for revenue.

              • I agree with everything CJ is saying but for one issue. Driving is still a privelidge, not a right. Laws enacted through the traffic code as they apply to drivers are somewhat exempted in my mind, which is why I do not tend to get worked up about these type of debates.

All that said, I think it is a terrible law, and completely unneeded, just like seatbelt laws for adults. I only wish I lived in Arlington to have the ability to vote on the issue.

It wasn't even a vote for citizens, it was a city council vote. You could have showed up and petitioned the council, but that's about it. Usually laws that generate money don't come up for ballot voting, no one would vote for them.

Then it would be up to the voters to push on the council members that represent them. Still the same result, since I am not a resident there they wouldn't give a flying flip about my opinion.

I was intending to show up and push their shit in, but I had no option, had to be in the office - couldn't get out.

Yeah, that wasn't meant as a rip btw. I'm not trying to make the "if you don't vote you can't complain" argument.

                        • This shouldn't be a law, it should be some goddamned common sense. Problem is all of the fucktards on the road that don't have any common sense. When you enter a car, you are taking your life and someones elses life in your own hands. Here is a ground breaking idea, when you get in a car, perhaps you should be focused on DRIVING, not everything else.

I have seen my family do it, I have seen my friends do it, and I have seen random strangers do it, pisses me off every single time. My friend ran a red light, my sister always weaves like a drunk person, my dad can't maintain speed for shit, and my other friend put his truck into a guard rail.

So again, it shouldn't have to be a law, it should be common sense. Agreed on being a cash grab though, you really want to stop it, make it the same as a DUI since it's pretty much the exact same.

                          • BTW, for the record, I rarely ever text while driving. I just know my limits and texting is beyond that. Hell, I try to avoid talking on the phone too. I prefer to drive when I am driving.

The old worn steering box in the Bronco doesn't help.

That wheel play is as designed - the soberizing feature. You feel like you've had too much when you're completely sober.

God forbid you ever have an unconventional job, where your car is basically your office, 80+% of your day is spent in the car, etc. You do realize there is such a thing as talking not to just "chicken peck", right? If you spend 80% of your day in the car, when is a good time to "chicken peck"? We liev in a now society. People have business cell phones that can't go ignored.

No wonder you live on the East Coast. You fit right in with those mouth breathing idiots.
