Then it would be up to the voters to push on the council members that represent them. Still the same result, since I am not a resident there they wouldn't give a flying flip about my opinion.
well...... you ARE a resident here, and most of us dont give a flying flip about your opinion either!
god bless.

I don't think I'd call The Geofster an idiot, but he sure is missing the point.
It's similar to people using drugs. They outlawed drugs and cited things like people stealing as justification for the law. Stealing is already illegal, the reason people steal shouldn't make a hill a beans difference. Arrest them for the laws they've broken, don't create new ones that encompass what's already against the law. It's just retarded, and a huge waste of time and money.

No, dude. I'm an idiot. dville_gt has spoken.
How do we forget ourselves? How do we forget our minds?
You're just missing the point and dville_gt doesn't know how to word his thoughts well. Much like my drug use analogy, there are already laws regarding hitting people with your car. Running stop lights/stop signs is already illegal, and not staying in your lane is illegal. Why do we need this extra piece of unneeded legislation to inhibit our civil liberties and place another umbrella of law over what's already against the law? If someone can text and not endanger someone elses life in the process, what's the harm? I, like CJ, think this is just another money grab.
Yes, I text and drive, but the difference is I don't put the phone down in my lap to do it. I have it up next to the steering wheel and use my peripheral vision to text and keep my eyes on the road. How is that endangering someones life? It's common sense things like that which would prevent retarded laws like this, that serve absolutely no purpose other than to make the city more money, from coming into existence.
God forbid you ever have an unconventional job, where your car is basically your office, 80+% of your day is spent in the car, etc. You do realize there is such a thing as talking not to just "chicken peck", right? If you spend 80% of your day in the car, when is a good time to "chicken peck"? We liev in a now society. People have business cell phones that can't go ignored.
So because this is "a now society" that gives right of passage to drive like an oblivious douchebag. Got it.
What I find interesting is those oblivous douchebags you want to defend really really covet the 10 cars of real estate between their front bumper and the car in front of them. You try and pass, they'll do everything in their power to scream, bitch cry and tailgate as they keep yacking and chicken pecking away.
No wonder you live on the East Coast. You fit right in with those mouth breathing idiots.
Ouchies. There is good reason why cell phones are banned in many East Coast states. Perhaps you can look up some of the nation's worst drivers and see why.

How does it feel losing that right? Are you one of the nation's worst drivers? Are you too stupid to use a cell phone and drive?

I am as well as everyone else I've seen on the road. I have never seen one person that I've seen using a cell phone be completely alert to their surroundings. I refuse to use a cell phone while driving because I don't feel like I'm in as much control as I can be. I like to know what's going on around me. I pretty much feel like that is my obligation while driving. I am not from the East Coast therefore, no. I am not. You ever driven in DC? I challenge you to do so, navigate their roads, and then get back to me if the dumbfucks there, who actually live there, drive around like they're lost, deserve to use a cell phone when behind the wheel of a moving vehicle. I'd be giddy Virginia follows suit.

Why should their inabilities strip you of your right to call someone when driving? What happens if you're waiting on a call from your wife for an emergency, etc? Ever use your phone for navigation? With or without this law those same people can still be pulled over and ticketed. Failure to maintain a lane is against the law. Driving too close behind someone is against the law. Speeding, and running stop lights are both against the law. See what we're saying here? The current law does not prevent any of these idiots from getting tickets. But, this law does allow them to ticket you from driving your vehicle within all these constraints.

This. I'm fucked. I am in Arlington everyday for work and travel to and from schools and kid's houses. I text and talk on my phone all fucking day for work and am in my car 80% of the time.

Just because you've never seen something, doesn't mean it doesn't happen. I've never seen an LEO actually help someone, but that doesn't mean they don't. You see how ignorant that is?
Just because YOU can't talk and drive doesn't mean that someone smarter than you can't.

Problem is that the ones that "can" are far fewer than the ones that can't. On top of that, every single person that I know that says their driving isn't impaired is full of shit. Same with "I can drive high" or "I can drive just fine drunk". Same line you gave, just because you can't doesn't mean that everyone can't, I am different.

So you legislate to the lowest common denominator? Have you not given up enough freedom to this very, exact thing? You can't legislate common sense. It's a slippery slope. This country is anything but free anymore, and those like you that are all too willing to give up freedom because something annoys you, are the reason why. If I voted to outlaw everything that annoyed me, I'd be the only person left on this planet.
