Front LCAs are $47 for Doormans and $70 for a little better ones.
    Rear LCAs are $70
    AC compressor $193
Rear shocks are $40-$70 depending on brand
Front struts are $75-$115 depending if you want smooth or performance
Window regulators are under $70 and window motors are $100

All in all its part prices are cheaper than most Honda and Ford parts.
Tischer bmw is the best place for oem parts.

Holy shit, those prices are waaay lower than I would have guessed! I guess I'll have to add an E36 to the list of prospective next rides.

Anyone know if the E39 5 series are similar in reliability and cost of ownership?

ive been shopping for an e39 540i m6. been reading bimmerforums a lot. seems like bushings and cooling systems are the biggest issues.

Frank, it's just like keeping up an old brittish car. It's really cool to drive but there is always something that needs to be fixed!

Only issues I read about were cooling issues like radiator and water pump but if serviced regularly then they are not a problem.

Parts wise (again just using Rock Auto for a quick guide) the control arms are cheaper by about half vs the 3 series. The AC comp is about $40 more, front struts are a little less. The rear shocks though are expensive if it has the.... well I dont know what it is, auto leveling maybe? Anyway they are $408 each or around $70 if the car does not have that feature.
Regulators and window motors are about the same.

Radiators are under $150 for autos and $300ish for manuals on the V8 cars. Water pumps are $100-$170 (OEM $170) new and under $50 for reman.
Prices seem around the same for the inline 6 versions.
Good judgment comes from bad decisions and a lot of that comes from bad judgment.
