The Thunderbirds do their training out in that general area, they are stationed at Nellis but their practice field is about half an hour outside of Vegas. You guys also drove near Tonopah and Creech, you can feel pretty certain there was a UAV flying overhead for a good part of that stretch.

Careful in NV, they have planes that run radar and then send the state police after you for ticketing. Ask me how I know.

Unless you work on a carrier or something, you never get over the coolness and power of those awesome machines.

Only time it got old for me was when my tent was fairly damned close to a runway in Uzbekistan. Hell, was only gone a day or two at an airbase in Qatar and to F-16s took off together and it was cool again.

Very cool story. You guys are probably being talked about on some Fighter Pilot forum about as much as you guys are talking about them - here.

                      Bad ass story.

haha hell yeah man... that's awesome. I had that happen once in my dad's '63 vette on highway 40 heading west to vegas. An F101 voodoo did the loudest fucking flyby I've ever seen. Scared the fucking shit out of us, except he came from behind.

run radar? Don't they just count the mile marker stripes and do the math?
