How much do you tip the pizza guy on a $25 bill?

I will say I dont see $5 tip on Pizza. Most pizza's are $12 to $15 at best. I tip %15 to %20 as a rule of thumb. $5 is crazy to me

here's my take on it... if you're already going to tip them $2-3, what's another $2-3 in the grand scheme of life to bring it up to $5?

but when you hand the guy/girl a $5 bill and say thanks, you stand out from all the other schlubs who only round up a buck or two...

They'll go out and make somebody's day in the future, you can count on that. That somebody may be your son or daughter in the future. We've got PLENTY of negativity in this world. Bust out some inexpensive positivity every now and then

At this place, I tip 40-50% depending on how many courses, drinks, whether or not I got a bottle of wine, etc. I didn't save myself anything. He would have received that or close to it regardless.

My first job was bagging groceries at the Kroger on Mockingbird. One day a guy in his early twenties, probably a SMU student, slipped me a couple bucks for bagging his groceries (not taking them out to his car or anything). It was pretty normal to get a tip for taking people's stuff to their car but that was the only time that happened while I had that job. I still think about that. Nowadays I'll throw a bagger a couple bucks if they are busting their ass.

I've left a penny one time, along with a note on the receipt as to why. It was all her attitude. I tip 15% on bad service generally. But I also differentiate bad service from a kitchen screw up, and don't take that out on my server's tip in most cases.

To be clear, I dont tip 40-50% everywhere I go. I tip that much at that specific place because the service is second to none. I also tip higher at my usual watering holes, because those ppl take care of me on a regular basis.

That would be like me expecting a tip for installing gears when I'm already getting paid a salary. And if you don't tip me I'll leave your lug nuts loose. I don't do that. I do the job I was hired for an am getting paid by my employer for. I don't expect a tip nor do I typically even accept one. This is my job!! The difference is that a pizza guy or a waiter take their job expecting tips, because it is the norm, and thankfully, most decent people do tip, and some tip very well. At the end of the day, they also expect that there will be dipshits like you who don't tip worth a shit. The idea is that the average tippers and the occasional great tippers will outweigh the schmucks. Is it worth being one of the schumcks to save yourself a few more bucks?

You cannot rightfully compare a service industry job to other jobs. The latter should not expect tips, but may still get one every now and then. The former makes their living off of tips, because it's customary. When they do a good job, it's not because they want to make their boss proud. It's because they are attempting to earn their money which consists of the tip that YOU should be prepared to give.

That's the way the system is supposed to work. Normal, decent, intelligent people get that. If you don't like it, you shouldn't choose to eat out at restaurants, go to Sonic, or order pizza for delivery.

And before you go exaggerating shit because you can't make a good point otherwise, no one here is saying you should tip 20% on shitty service, or that it's okay for waiters/delivery drivers to expect an automatic tip without doing a good job. We're also not saying you should tip $20 for a pizza delivery, or that you should tip anything when they completely screw things up or take over an hour to get to you.

Average service gets 20% from me, normally. Great service will get more. I rarely tip less, but if the service is terrible, I will do so to make a point. The pizza guy gets $5 and maybe some change depending on how I paid. That's for one pizza, sometimes two. He's always thankful, arrives very quickly, and brings peppers and cheese in case I need them. It's not like $5 is going to break me, so it's worth every penny, as far as I'm concerned.

Your opinion is ignorant. Try installing gears making $2.13 an hour and see if you don't start to bitch about being paid more. As far as your food being taken out, unless you want it to sit under heat lamps until your waiter/waitress can get to it, more power to you. I guess that way you would have more to complain about.

There's some seriously broke ass worthless pieces of shit posting in here. A pizza guy doesn't make anything and people are complaining about parting with $3-4 for them. At least the guy isn't out begging on the street. He's putting miles on his car and using his gas to bring you assholes food. Give the man $3 or go get the damn food yourself. So the pizza place charged a delivery fee that doesn't go to the pizza guy? So fucking what! You agreed to the fee! Don't punish the guy who had to spend his own money bringing you food because you have buyer's remorse over choosing delivery. It's a few dollars; if that means you aren't going to make your mortgage then you shouldn't be ordering pizza anyway you cheap fucks.

On a side note, when I do take out I'll tip the server fairly well since I know they had to get the order together. Just because you pick up your food doesn't mean that someone didn't have to work as hard putting it together as conventional wait staff. Usually it's the bartender anyways and the day shift ones starve to death.

Now if I go through the drive through and it's a dedicated person working that window and they have a tip jar I'm probably not going to leave anything. Starbucks and Railhead are the only two places that come to mind like that. Starbucks its based on principal, I mean I'm spending $4 for coffee, should you really be expected to leave a 25% tip for over priced coffee? At Railhead all they do is take the order and hand you your food. Maybe it makes me a dick or a cheapass but I'm sure that person gets paid more than $2.13 an hour and I doubt they split tips with everyone else there.

I understand going care of the people at your normal places but why give someone free money for shitty service?

^^ this.. They diddent refill my drink, get my steak sauce, etc. They charge an additional $3 for delivery, why should i pay even more? No way in hell is a large pizza from dominos worth $20!!

Also at sonic, hell no i dont tip. All they did was walked my food to the car. Its not my fault there isnt a drive through at some of the locations. they make minimum wage, its not my fault they chose that job.

If you choose not to tip then please go pick it up. There is a $2-3 charge for delivery but the pizza guy might only get a $1 out of that. They charge you that to offset the costs of bags, signage, blanket insurance policy for all drivers etc etc... I was a delivery driver for about 2 years right after high school and the average tip per pizza was about $3.

That guy doesn't get paid for the miles he drives in his own vehicle and also has to pay to maintain the vehicle with tires and oil changes far more often than the average joe.


Sonic car hops can get bent, they just come bring you your food, that's like a chik-fil-a employee asking for a tip when they bring you your food.
