Got a call Friday about 3:00PM, my dad says my brother, Fred.....had been electrocuted at work & coworkers found him dead, no pulse & not breathing.
They did CPR, called 911- when the parametics arrived they defibed him & got a pulse. So he's careflighted to McKinney Regional Hospital. At MRH, they find his pupils barely reactive to light - he's near brain dead. They put him in a cool suit & a drug induced coma. They keep him at 85 degrees & barely alive- he's on a ventilator.
His wife Michelle, who is an RN has him transfered to Parkland around 5:00PM via careflighted to Parkland ( he got shocked around 2:00PM). Friday night his eyes return to normal reactivitiy & brain function picks up, so they take off the cool suit & let him return to normal temps. Saturday morning they let him awaken.....he can speak & breath on his own, but very disoriented & has NO short term memory. We have to tell him every 5 minutes where he's at & what happened.
All day saturday, we have the same discussion with him over & over.
Sunday AM, he's got a little more short term memory, but we'er still worried. Sunday afternoon, he short term memory improves TREMENDOUSLY. Thye says his heart is fine, his 3rd degreee burns too small for skin grafts. They did nuerologiocal workup in Fred - no brain damage.
He's now out of ICU & might get to go home Tuesday. All he's gonna have is a few small scars from the burns!!!! For us...... a miracle!
