It's just a matter of preference. I like white onion the best.

I will say that roma tomatoes seem to taste the best to me. You can also add other things to your liking, including tomatillos. Serranos > Jalapenos to me, but I like the flavor and heat of them. Also, I use all fresh ingredients, no cans of anything go into my salsa.
one of the best tasting/very spicy salsa's Ive had was from a white guy.

        5-6 Roma tomatos
1 can diced tomatos with green chilis
        1/2 white onion
        4 jalapenos
        1 tsp garlic salt
        1/2 tsp pepper
        4 pinches of cumin

All seasonings are to taste. Start out with 1/2 tsp of garlic salt and work up from there.
I pretty much use this exact same recipe, but I put the tomatoes and peppers in the broiler till they are brown on the edges. Smells amazing.

I go apeshit with mine, and I'm usually drunk, so it's hit or miss.

It goes something like this though:

2 cans of fire roasted diced tomatoes
          1 big white onion
At least half a jar of minced garlic
Peppers - I change it up. Basically whatever I feel like grabbing, japs, serranos, habaneros, the big green chile peppers, etc... Sometimes I use more than one kind.
          Salt
          Chili powder
          Cumin
          A dash of cinammon
          lots of cilantro
          lots of lime juice
And at the end I add finely diced dried ghost peppers or dried habaneros to ramp up the heat. I try to make the "Turbo" painful but still edible.
I've found that fresh habaneros are much hotter than dried ghost peppers. Go figure!

I used to use all fresh ingredients, but it is a pain and it seems to taste a little better (to me) using the canned roasted tomatoes.

            1 fresh tomato
1 can of peeled whole tomatoes
            fresh cilantro, chopped
3 cloves of fresh garlic or 3 tblsp garlic powder or jarred minced garlic
3-6 fresh jalapenos (adjust for your taste preference)
            3 tablespoons of lime juice
1/2 of a medium sized peeled onion
            1 tsp salt

Put everything in a blender and hit the pulse button a few times until it looks like salsa and you're done.

You can adjust all ingredients to your taste. You can also use all canned tomatoes or all fresh tomatoes. I like fresh tomatoes. I've added pineapple and it was pretty good. I've also used green tomatoes (boiled) and avocado instead of red tomatoes for a green salsa and that's pretty good also.
add 3 habanaros and thats my recipe

Besides the cumin this is very similar to my recipe. I also boil my jalapenos before i add them.

Well I took all of the recipe suggestions and came up with my own, its not perfect but it turned out pretty damn good.

Here is what I ended up with

                          6 Roma Tomatoes
                          1 Can Diced Tomatoes
                          1 Lime worth of Juice
                          5 Cloves of garlic
                          2/3 White onion
                          Cilantro
3 Jalapenoes cooked in a pan till the skin just started to brown
                          Salt
                          Pepper

Now I'm ready to open a beer and grill some fajitas after work tomorrow

I won't post my exact one, because I am trying to bottle and sell it. I posted one close to what I do on the other board, but it's not exact.
