It is unfortunate, but the irresponsibility of these inner city thug life owners will ruin this breeds reputation (as it already has, for the most part). And more than likely cause the breed to be outlawed eventually given the current big government climate. It will garner more attention from the media, violence from these dogs will be inflated, and they will be the whipping boy. I feel the persona and image of these dogs is based on some degree of reality (in them being highly muscular and physically able) but like most outlawed or banned things, it's the fear of what people do not understand, and not the reality of the situation.

Breed specific legislation doesn't solve anything. It's absurd. Just like gun control, all you will accomplish is taking them away from the responsible people. The lowlifes don't follow the rules anyway, so they will will still get/own/abuse them, just making matters worse.

In this case, yes. Because a 13 DAY OLD baby should never be left unattended in any case, for any reason. This happened because the parent stupidity.

Forrest is just one of those people you never really know where he stands on something (with exception of being Patty's number one hater lol). They knocked on doors and ripped hundreds of pets from the arms of responsible owners who had them registered with the city, and killed them. How many gangbangers do you think register their dogs? The level of stupidity behind that mess is astounding.

I saw the writing on the wall almost 10yrs ago when a friend of mine was having trouble getting homeowner's insurance because of his dog.

I decided against getting a pit bull a long time ago because of the liabilities...

I don't understand why somebody would seek out owning one. There are plenty of other dogs out there without the stigma and liability attached

As a rule, they are very intelligent, even more loyal and eager to please than other breeds, great for protection of home and family, few health problems, pretty coats/color patterns, active and fit, tons of personality, and (believe it or not) great to have around kids because they can take tons of abuse and not get hurt or angry. Obviously, there are exceptions to the rule, as with anything. Lots of people refuse to see or believe these as traits of the APBT, but it's true.

They have their downsides, no doubt. They are commonly animal aggressive. I have one that is and one that isn't. They can be escape artists, and are sometimes too smart for their own good (one of mine can open any unlocked door, so every doorknob in my house looks like a raisin). The insurance thing is a real obstacle, but it's in no way limited to pit bulls. Those same policies usually also name rotts, dobies, boxers, etc. So again, it's not just a pitbull thing, even though a lot of people assume it is.

I am able to responsibly guard against the negatives, and thoroughly enjoy the positives. In the end, it's worth it. I also get great enjoyment when people come over with predetermined stereotypes in ther mind, fear or disdain for the breed, and end up falling in love with my dogs and completely changing their outlook. It's an uphill battle against the stigma, and the media (and people who just don't know) really throw fuel on the fire, but I'll try to educate and change minds here and there when possible.
