my friends have a dalmatian that obviously isn't 100% pure... clearly has some pointer in it... how do we know that? BECAUSE IT POINTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

dilute a pit bull's gene pool with a dog who wasn't bred against human aggression and what do you get? potential human killer... the science of genetics is amazing and fascinating. You can't just train against it and expect a completely reprogrammed canine. Sorry, not gonna happen.
    This fuckin' guy right here...

Pit Bulls were brought into this country for dogfighting, not pets. They were designed to kill, not to fetch a tennis ball.

Noones saying that there arent tons of pit bulls that would never harm a family member, but the ones who do, give ALL pit bulls a bad name, because people are stupid and jump to conclusions when they really don't know better. Theres no certain way to tell which dog will turn on its owner/family and which one wont, but this family had to learn the hard way that just because a dog doesnt show aggression in the begining......... it doesnt mean it never will.

You could not be more wrong. To think that you can't raise a good pitbull because of genetics is absurd. The majority of pitbulls, juts like any other breed, are great dogs. You refuse to acknowledge that, or more likely, you don't agree because you don't know better. I do. Thing is, people that don't know better shouldn't pretend that they do.

As much as I hate these threads, there is a point that is being overlooked. First, all dogs are pack animals and there is an established pecking order. A dog, regardless of the breed, may respect you/the owner and the pack leader however lack the ability to logically conclude the same of a small, helpless screaching baby. Dogs can and will turn on the weak, human or dog. If the dog that killed this baby had never been around a baby before, I am sure it was confused and stressed. Even our great dane puppy reacted to crying babies and children on television is a distressful way.

Also, dogs use their mouths to discipline their young. A female will grab her puppies by the head/neck and hold them until they relax and submiss. The longer the puppy resists, the more pressure is applied. A human baby would typically resist to the clutch of a dog therefore causing the dog to apply more and pressure and adjusting their grip which has ended up in a mauling even though the dog was not "aggressively attacking" the baby.

As far as dogs that bite, Goldens are one of the top biters in the dog work. Anyone who has been around smaller dogs like Chi's also know they are terrible for families with children.

My family has had to deal with several pit bull attacks on their own property where loose "family pets" have been allowed to roam the neighorhood and have mauled and killed many of their horses. Even more absurd is that my parents ended up owning the house of the family around the corner who pit killed a month old foal and ripped the face off of the mare. They ended up renting it to a family friend who also had a pitbull. He was a great dog, been raised since a puppy as part of the family and too showed no signs of aggression but was a fence jumper. He would get out regularly, it was not something the owner was not aware of. Sure enough, a year later he jumps the fence, comes over to our property and mauled several horses including one that my mother had bottle fed from birth when its mother passed away. At the end of the day, it is a dog, it is going to do what dogs do. It is the owner's responsibililty to control and contain their dogs again, regardless of the breed.

Still awaiting the story about a Corgi devouring a kid. We won't see it because of that darned biased media!

I didn't see any bias when my aunt/uncles Golden attacked a jogger as he ran by them while on a walk. The jogger also happened to be an attorney in Austin. Maybe not media worthy but still happened.

No point in arguing with someone who is unable to wrap their mind around the difference between the injuries inflicted by a 10lb dog vs 50+lb dog. A dog is considered "property" and therefore the owner bears all responsibility.

Yes, because there have been just as many or more injuries from other 50lb breeds... Retarded.
I can wrap my mind around it just fine. Pits should be rounded up and killed with fire.
