  • Hospital stay for newborn

Ok, son is due on Wednesday, c-section, so I will be staying up there for several days till both mom and baby are ready for the ride home. What all should I bring or can I bring to the hospital to keep me occupied and such??? First time father...

Other than clothes and the car seat, nothing. Sleep as much as you can while your insurance is paying for the childcare.

You'll be busy with running back and forth, getting real food for your wife. Danny stopped by and brought beers with my last one. LOL

Laptop? Some rooms have a DVD player, because we all know the tv channels suck. You'll be busy entertaining guests, running food errands and attempting to catch sleep that isn't going to happen, because a nurse will in there all hours of the night.

Congrats! The first month seems like it's dragging along, but after that it flies.

My wife was in for almost a week. I had a sleeping bag, hygiene kit, laptop and a good phone to fiddle around with.

I mostly spent time taking care of her and us talking. She had complications though, so most people are in and out within 48 hours. However, if you're there awhile most have a shower/bathroom you can use. Then I'd just run out for food if she was allowed to have it or for me to eat.

With any luck though, you'll be in and out before you need anything to really keep you occupied. Congrats.

Laptop/iPad if you have Netflix or something like it. Cash for vending machines.

This.. I was up almost the whole time helping my wife get up and move around. Unless you can convince your wife to power through the fact that she had her stomach sliced open to get your kid out of there, take some movies and games and other fun things
                .....bro....

Early congrats buddy! I have none of these children things I keep hearing people talking about, but I'd imagine most of the good stuff has already been covered. Toiletries and laptop/portable DVD player are great ideas. Don't forget phone charger and cash/change for the snack machines. Most hospitals have pretty good cafeterias (not the same as patient food), so that's always an option for grub.

I've been in the hospital w/ my wife for 9 days. She 35 weeks and having complications, inducing next weekend. Nexflix on my laptop and ipad w/ games has keep me from going insane.
You remember the stories John use to tell us about the the three chinamen playing Fantan? This guy runs up to them and says, "Hey, the world's coming to an end!" and the first one says, "Well, I best go to the mission and pray," and the second one says, "Well, hell, I'm gonna go and buy me a case of Mezcal and six whores," and the third one says "Well, I'm gonna finish the game." I shall finish the game, Doc.

Alot of good things suggested in here.

Don't forget to put your babyseat in the car. If you don't have one in your car, they will not let you leave with the baby. (At least at Baylor they won't)

Cash. I was running around trying to find stuff for myself and the wife who was in labor 18 hours or so in the middle of the night. The cafeteria may or may not be open during the night, coffee shops etc. Plus, paying for parking in the garage. You're going to want to park as close by as possible.

Your phone charger! You will be on the phone often with friends and family.

Your camera - Gotta have pics of your new pride and joy.

Gees man, sorry to hear that and I hope things work out for you and it is not too bad. I know they can be super cautious...which is a good thing.
