Last year, my roommate was at the library studying for finals. He had gone a few tables over to check something with one of his classmates, leaving his stuff on the table he had been sitting at all morning.

A group of black students were getting on the elevator, when all of a sudden one of them darted out from the elevator, grabbed a textbook from his table, and was back into the elevator just as the door closed.

Keep in mind he was sitting maybe 15 feet away, and was facing his stuff to make sure it didn't grow legs. By the time it registered what was happening, that ninja was long gone.

He took off down the stairwell to try and catch up to the guy, but he was nowhere to be found. He reported it to campus PD, who said it was actually a very common problem around finals week. Guess which demographic the officer said the perps usually fit?
