  • Home A/C pregunta- it's on, but nothings on

Got up and it was hot. Set on 70 and was 83 inside. System is on as it usually is, but units outside are not running and nothing in the attic is running. No breakers are tripped- suggestions?

At our old shop we used to have a problem with ants getting in between the contacts of the outdoor unit. cleaned them and it would work fine.

Check the capacitor on the outside unit. The inside unit should stil run though so that may not be the problem. You thermostat could have taken a shit.

Does your capacitor look like this?

If so, you need to replace it. Buy two when you do, that way you have a spare. 30$ if that. Just had to on mine.

One of these things I bet....

If the outside compressor is running and the fan isnt then the fan motor is burned up.

If nothing is working then either ants crawled up in between the contacts and wont allow a connection or the capacitor is burned up. Only real way to tell is with a multimeter.

The outside compressor has burned up.

Thanks it was the capacitor. Neighbor works for one hour and said I'm leaking freon from coils and said our system got about another year and done (currently 15 yrs old)

What's the typical life Span of a central hear and air system?

Fuck he said a new system is 8k-9k!!

When the tech guy came out to put freon in mine, he said 10-12 years. Time for someone to get a home warranty!

The capacitor won't always bulge when bad, just FYI. But if it is bulging, it's guaranteed to be bad.

We had american home general or something and ended up canceling the policy since we either had to pay the deductible plus pro rated amount or it wasn't covered, so we said fuck it
