You know, something big....

moderate asteroid impact, big terrorist attack, single nuke launch, Zombie Apocalypse.... something that wouldn't knock out the population as a whole, but something that would knock out all basic government services and city infrastructure for a very extended length of time.

No electricity, no consistent potable water, no fresh food shipped in.... Basically going back to the 1800s overnight.

My thought was that 75% of the general US populace would have no fucking clue how to survive.

It's amazing how dependent many of us have become on just about everything....

    Any thoughts?
    "They" are the zombies.

        I'm good.

Hopefully it doesn't happen because life in general would be boring as fuck.

The "adult" 20-30 year olds that moved out and then moved back in with mom & dad, because their lazy asses wouldn't/couldn't make it on their own, would get a harsh lesson in growing up. No more TV, no more innernet, no more sleepnig late, all on someone else's dime would be over. Boo-hoo......

Right now, about 10% of the US population is composed of military veterans. Less than 2% of the population is in the military.

There is the bulk of your survivors right there.

I was reading up on this in the CIA factbook page and found this interesting tidbit..

MEN in the US Military - 2,161,727
Women in the US Military - 2,055,685

I had no idea that the numbers were so close.

That is nuts, although it seems that there are quite a bit out here.

MRE's, matches and rope would be a plenty, but you'd never see a gallon of milk or a roll of toilet paper ever again.

I believe i could adapt to it. I may be young but I am not a fuck up and I pay my own bills and work my ass off for what I have. So I would force myself to adapt

Anything catastrophic enough to send us back to the 1800's will kill at least 75% of the population from the beginning.

But to play your game, I think the statement that 75% can't survive is a far overshoot. People adapt...they're not all just gonna sit there and starve. Furthermore, people will help people. If dumbass cavemen could survive, advanced people can as well. It'll just take time. And life expectancy will obviously drop because of primitive health care.

What is with all you loonies bringing up threads non-stop about the end of the world and shit like that.

Problem is, I won't either, so we'll have to make arrangements in the afterlife. Or I can just welch the fuck out of it because you can't do shit to me in the afterlife.
How about we just flip a coin? Heads I win, tails you lose.

Of course there would be problems, but I know for a fact that I would survive as long I would naturally live.
