a buddy of mine found a 2002 jeep wrangler with 30k miles for $12,000 but his bank would only loan 8,900 on a vehicle that old.

That's kind of in the make or break area of cash car to financed car. Honestly, the only car I would finance that is 10 years old is a 4cyl Accord.
