  • How much would you pay for a fairmont

Recently, I had someone offer to sell a car I was interested in a while back. I have bought too much junk in the meantime so I am less interested now. At the time he swore he wouldn't sell but now he is contemplating it.

Said car is a 1981 Mercury Zephyr wagon, blue with woodgrain, perfect interior, original V8, good running and looking car. He has recently tuned it up and it is daily driver quality. When I first asked him about selling it, almost a year ago, he had just bought it after sitting in a garage for years. I believe it still has under 100k and the interior was perfect.
So, if you wanted a Zephyr wagon, what would you pay?

I'd say if its a running driving daily driver in the condition you say...given what it is to the rest of the world...an old grandma station wagon....bout 500 bucks. To the people that love those things it might be a prized find...but I would definitely try to buy it on the premise that its a very old unpopular car that just happens to be in good shape.

I knew this subject would suck you in!

I'd drive one also but would top out at about $1,500.

Any used car that runs/drives good and is visually in good shape is worth $1500 minimum on craigslist.

This is what I was thinking.

No pics, but I might try to get some.

I took some pictures. There is a dent in the drivers fender. Original radio and speakers work well, cruise control, AC works good, the power windows need help, and the passenger power lock has become unhooked. I don't know the mileage for certain but it has the original 255 engine.

I hadn't planned on buying it, but at $1500, the junk collector side of me couldn't resist.

The right Fairmont could get about $4k out of me.

You paid a fair price for it. It looks like a really nice car for its age. Swap out the 255 for a 5.0 and you will love it.
