  • O'reilly online VS in store prices

So just to be sure we are clear this is not a bash on O'reilly. I love my local one and there are some great guys working there.

Anyways this is not the first time this has happened but the last time it did I did not catch it. I just thought it was my fault and I looked at the price wrong online.

When you are browsing the site online and looking for parts it always gives you the option of a printable list. I never actually print it off I usually just go in and my buddy looks it up real quick. I noticed one time that the part I was looking at was much higher in the store then online and I just chalked it up as a misread. Well the other day I go in to buy a new starter, O2 sensor, and a EGR VSR or whatever it is called for the Bronco. I noticed the starter was 49.99 online with a one year warranty and they had the exact three wire O2 sensor. So I get to the store and the cheapest starter they have is a 89.99 Ultima with a one year warranty or close to that. I tell the guy nope I am positive I noticed it was 49.99. He figures it was because I looked up the wrong one and picked the one with no solenoid. He looks several times, so I decide to whip out the ole smart phone. He was shocked when I showed him the number and it had two available in store. He went right to the shelf and got it. Same exact starter with the same warranty under a different name but way cheaper. Same thing with the O2 sensor. Not so much the price but the correct part number. There was something a while back that was way more when I got up there though. I wish I would have caught that then. From now on I am printing the damn list. LOL

Even when he punched in the number though it did not show compatable with the Bronco it just showed a number and that they had two in stock.

Most people I talk to have nothing but good things to say about you, but you sure come across as a condescending prick. Do you have an inferiority complex you've attempted to overcome through overachievement? Or were you fondled as a child?

You and slow99 should date. You both have passive aggressiveness down pat.

I had a similar experience a few months ago after looking up a part at work and then going to the store. I thought that I made a mistake when looking up the part on the internet.

Yeah, I was a little ticked when my order of 5 went through for the $134 Reese hitches for $0.36 a piece and then received a cancelled about 5 hours later.

I wouldn't be surprised if their system is just that shitty. You have to remember you're talking about tens (or hundreds? or thousands?) of thousands of parts, and a metric fuckton of applications with lots of overlap.

Sounds like he doesn't have an idea how to look up parts, or was trying to pad his comission by selling you something more expensive. Also, generally those 1 year starters are pure junk. Looks like you'll probably be seeing that kid again soon.

And O'Reilly carries 2 products lines on almost everything. Chances are you guys are looking at the cheap brand, and generally the better brand is listed first at the store level. Also, not all stores stock the same parts. A store 3 miles away might have the cheap part, and another one have the premium.

I know several places like Target and Academy will have an online price and a store price. They will rarely price match their online price, I assume it's because they make up quite a bit of the difference in the shipping and handling fees.

I was pissed when school uniform pieces were $3 cheaper online than in the store. I ended up spending $120 more because I wasn't savvy enough to order their uniforms a week earlier so they could ship in time.

I always wondered about the online price on a car. I mean, if you walk in and show them the online price, do they honor it? I have no idea since I have never done it, but I would assume they do.

LOL They looked identical, even though I am sure there are prob differences. However it is the same brand that was on it over a year and no issues. I dont know why I didnt check the Optima first. LOL If I end up keeping the truck I am going to order a torquemaster or mini starter anyways and its about a 10 to 15 minute job to change it. I am rolling around in my pee brian a way to make full soft doors for it like on a Jeep. I thinks thats the only reason I want a Jeep is I like to go doorless.

I am positive of what I looked at. I even had the part # with me that I wrote down off of the website. It showed to be in stock also at the store that I visited. Price and availability were different on the website vs. in the store.

The website doesn't update as quickly as the inventory actually turns in the store. I've seen that happen before.
