Yes, he did a Laparoscopic procedure on me...was in that morning and out by early afternoon. Noticed relief immediately too.

I had surgery yesterday. Everything went well. Feeling pretty good. My right leg no long hurts, what a relief!

So they just removed the disc entirely? I had a lady tell me it was the best thing she ever did. I would be interested to see how it affects your everyday movement and function

I believe there is some remaining. Right now I don't remember much of what the doc said. There was a lot of small bone fragments that he had to remove. Even though I am on some pain killers, it feels way better than it did when I have strained it before. As I recuperate, Iwill post progress.

The shattered disc had blown out into my spinal canal and I lost the feeling and vertical movement in my left leg and foot. Funny thing is that a blew off the back pain for a long time but started having the most severe pain in my left foot and realized that I had no feeling in my toes and up to my knee. Rothbart asked me to stand on my tip toes on the left at my first consult and nothing happened. After surgery I did not get back the sensation and still have some problems with my lower back, but still MUCH better than before. Best of luck.
On 4/10, lost all feeling in my entire left leg and at 3 am the next day was in so much pain I would almost pass out when sitting. Again, all of the pain was in the left leg and foot. Lost use of my 4 small toes and have minimal use of the big toe. When to new spine specialist who did an EMG (nerve test) and sent me for 2 MRI's. Funny thing... the "obliterated" S1 disc that was "removed" is still there as is the herniation of L5. However now I have scar tissue making traditional surgery through the back almost impossible and get to have the same surgery I needed in 2007 again to remove disc material and repair the herniation. Was not expecting that today. Anyone else have a negative experience with Spine Team/Dr. Rothbart by chance?

I had forgotten about this thread. I went through 8 weeks of PT, which helped quite a bit. After the first of the year, I started seeing a chiropractor. It has made a huge difference in my daily function. I am still no where near the physical capacity I wish I was. Some basic tasks are painful, I can't move more than 10 or 15 lbs without it hurting. I am quite a bit more active than when I had previously posted here, and most pain is tolerable without meds.

my wife had a disk shaved in her lower back when she was 22 she is now 27 and laying in the hospital waiting to see what they are going to do. She had alot of pain and tingling in her right leg again. One doctor she went to said the disk is resting on the nerves. any info or guidence would be great. Sorry about the spelling.

I am 8 weeks post op after my anterior lumbar fusion. The scar tissue made it impossible to reach from the back do they went through the front. The searing pain is gone but sensation and muscle control is still impaired. Luckily it is something that no one would notice but I have to be aware of. For example I tripped by kicking my own foot out from under myself!
