  • Anyone suffer from a blood clot in the leg before?

Deep Vein Thrombosis. After a week of intense pain in my left leg and getting to where I couldn't even walk on it, I went to the Doc to get checked out. He then referred me to get a CT scan. They found a large clot in my left leg and advised me to go to the ER immediately. I have never had to go to the ER. They would not even let me walk out to my car. I was straight admitted into the hospital through the ER and here I lay since last night. Another scan showed i had suffered several embolisms in my lungs which explains odd episodes of sudden short breath I had experienced lately. Looks like I am going to be on blood thinners a while. Not sure what this means yet on my ability to tinker in the garage since a nick can bleed for hours.

Apparently this is pretty common. Anyone else dealt with it?

Hospital food still sucks. No pretty nurses either.

No, but had a dog die of one last year. Glad you're ok.

Wow, you sure dodged a bullet from the sound of it. DVT is serious business.
I've never had it, but after my gall bladder surgery, they had those inflatable leg cuffs to keep me from getting clots. Between those and feeling like I'd just been cut in half, I was plenty uncomfortable. The hospital I was in (in St. Paul, MN) did have decent food and some good looking nurses though.

My wife is going through the same crap because her Dr. screwed up. She spent 5 days in the hospital.

DVT's are no joke. Watch out for paper cuts if they put you on coumadin.

Have you tried Cialis for that?

Seriously, that is some scary stuff. Can you at least request a better looking nurse? Good food isn't necessary.

Yeah, thats what I am on. May be for 6 months. No more sandals I am told. Apparently it is hereditary for me.

You have to undergo surgery for that or just on thinners and monitoring for awhile?

Id like to hear how the doctor screwed up and caused your wife to have a DVT/PE...

As for Frank..just chill out and relax in the hospital for a few days. Get your Lovenox injections and hang out. You can probably have people bring in food for you if you are on a regular diet.

If it's bad enough, you'll have to be on something like coumadin, a blood thinner that will change your life considerably.

                      Good luck man.

DVT happens in the main artery or vein just behind the knee, left side from what I understand but I believe it can be in other parts of the leg vein too.

My left knee has really been hurting. It's at the base of the knee cap and it feels like it's between the joint/bone area. It hurts the most when I first start walking on it after being off of it for a while, then the more I walk, the less it hurts. Wonder if I should get it checked out...

Oh, and Frank-glad you're ok and hope you have a speedy recovery.

I would guess that your problem is a medial meniscus, but that's just a guess. I had this problem also but also had severe swelling associated with it, but please don't take my word as "expert".

A DVT feels like a tooth ache behind the knee. I found that mine did come and go as the day went on, but by all means, you should get it checked out.
