    What do you think?
I did not read the whole thread but the wife and I are looking into this right now for our two year old twins. For us, with there being two kids at once it'll be a decent expense every month and we're being extremely picky.

I picked "no" because I understood what you were saying based off your post and few others afterwards.

We do not care if a teacher is Muslim or whatever. We DO care about hard accents, hygiene and we want zero political agendas. With that said, 2 Montessori schools have been eliminated so far based off hard accents and attitude.

We won't know any stupid political agendas until they are going there, but we're keeping an eye on it. The wife and I just believe in plain old school. Where the teachers were mildly strict, kept order, did not overly talk about their personal political opinions and set the example in whatever they were teaching.

I DO want a school with mixed cultures in the attendees for sure. I think that's good for kids and makes them "get a long" easier later in life and gets to think about other aspects/opinions.

I don't consider it racism or anything like that. I fully expect if I'm paying for a service some of my beliefs should be upheld. One of them is to speak English in an acceptable manner. I understand some accent for foreigners or people from different parts of the country. However, if it is difficult/impossible to understand the person - that is not acceptable.

I didn't read ALL of the posts - but if it were my child, I would probably not like it. If for anything, because of the language barrier.

As for the 'It's your child, and your responsibility to teach them right from wrong' - at this point, they are at a young and very impressionable age, and spending the better part of their awake hours of each day with a teacher who could possibly have a)poor teaching skills b)possible conflicting religous beliefs c)language barrier or D) all the above - may not be a 'good thing'.

I'd probably have to pass, and at the very least request a different teacher. I think before I did that, I'd probably be pretty likely to 'interview' the teacher to form a more accurate judgement before making up my mind.

I know that early in my life, I was on a rocky road to bieng a shit head - but I had a teacher who did a good job of keeping me out of trouble when I was in class. I still remember that stuff pretty good. I suspect that it could work both ways, good and bad.

Teachers can inspire more than parents in some cases. I remember several teachers and a few in HS had a small part in me doing just enough to graduate.

I think the sad part is GOOD teachers never know their accomplishments, because some of their effort is never known. I've thanked a few of mine that I can remember their names. There are others that are most likely dead or I don't remember their names.

You're right though, at a young age parents can teach right from wrong - but those teachers (all through school) can completely undo it if they wanted to.

          I've never tested.

Taking the test would mean a nice pay raise (give or take $10k/year), but it would also mean going to the bottom of the seniority barrel and working mids with Tues/Wed/Thu off.

This October will mark my 9th anniversary as a SGT and I should be able to have days with some part of the weekend off.

Curious, is the police force like the military? Meaning, you can do pretty damned well as enlisted as far as rank. Or do you hit a rank and then have to take on one of those officer titles to continue forward in your career?

Edit, gotta admit - at least in the Army E-9 is a bad ass rank to have.

You can go from Officer to Chief, but somewhere around LT you need to start having college. I'm not sure at what level you need a master's, but it's preferred to reach Deputy Chief level.

                  Officer
                  Corporal/Detective
                  Sergeant
                  Lieutenant
                  Captain
                  Major
                  Deputy Chief
                  Cheif

This is how it is at FWPD.

Keep in mind, the higher you go, the farther away you get from doing real police work. Usually at LT and higher you are nothing more than an administrator.

As a SGT, I stay in the field and help the guys. That's what policing is about, not sitting behind a desk and pushing paper.

I usually rib my superiors with the old saying, "You know, coaches coach because they can't play".

Cool, thanks for the rundown. That's a bummer that you can't keep the best of both worlds.

                    • I'd be more concerned with her speech and diction than her religion. We had my oldest in pre-K school that was founded by two SMU phD. graduates. That was all I knew about the school as my wife handled it.

I started to noticed a very "hick" sound in my daughter. Drawing out words, etc.

I met the teacher and I understood why the word milk became meeelk and "fixin' to" became part of regular speech.

Transferred after the Christmas break that year to another school.

                      • My youngest attends Montessori school and his original teacher had a slight accent and was most likely Muslim. At first, I was like uh is there an option B? But I saw the other kids there and there all well behaved and seemed to be having a good time, so I said lets try it out. She was a great teacher and I really ended up liking her. He is in the next level up now with another teacher. He made great progress in 6 months and language never an issue.

I'm on the fence with this one, but definitely leaning more on the "NO" side due to the fact that we are essentially at war with them in a religious aspect.

The idea that a 4 year old can't understand religion is asinine. Our middle child has been reciting the bible to anyone who would listen for quite some time. Granted, he's about to turn 10, but he has been very jovial about The Word.

Our youngest has been encompassed with Christianity her entire life as well. She is a sponge with information from everyone around her. It takes months to get her to accept that some of the subject matter is incorrect.

Me thinks your wife may be going through life (or at least part of it) with blinders on - or with false hopes.

                            Good luck Dave.

                            • My only question is, doc, why didn't you just leave the kitchen?

At a certain age I would be ok with it, but anything below say 8 or 9, then no, I want my kid to have a teacher who he can relate to.

Yeah, slight accent is okay in my book as well. Can't be helped.
