  • Dog stands beside his Navy Seal owner to the end

** I am not good at embedding video...if somebody wants to embed the video that would be good. Needless to say that this dog is fucking awesome and is a reflection of his owner because of the bond that is apparent in the video even though it is looped for emphasis**

The soldier was one of 38 killed in Afghanistan on Aug. 6 when a rocket-propelled grenade took out a U.S. Chinook helicopter. He was mourned at a service in Rockford, Iowa, attended by 1,500 family members and friends, and Tomlinson's loyal canine companion.

The Labrador retriever was such an important part of Tomlinson's life that the San Diego resident called his dog "son."

When Tomlinson's friend Scott Nichols walked to the front of the room to give his eulogy, Hawkeye followed. As Nichols spoke, Hawkeye dropped to the ground at the foot of the casket and, according to observers, heaved a big sigh. The loyal pooch would not leave his owner's casket during the funeral.

The video clip of the mourning dog seen here has already received more than 113,000 views.

The heart-breaking photo above was taken by Tomlinson's cousin and posted on Facebook, where it quickly went viral. She wrote on her Facebook page, "To say that he was an amazing man doesn't do him justice. The loss of Jon to his family, military family, and friends is immeasurable."

I'm glad you posted this, I saw the story come across the TV at a restaurant during lunch but it didn't have sound or subtitles and I was hoping to read about it later.

Truly as sad as it gets. The photo/story of the wife sleeping next to her Marine Husband's casket was sad. The fact the dog can sense him in the casket and not want to leave is just as sad if not worse.
Fuck you. We're going to Costco.

            Wow...that is truly sad.
The dog can be seen as a reflection of it's owner.

Heartbreaking. Dogs are better people than most people.

I really miss my lab. We put her down about two years ago because she was in so much pain she could hardly go outside to relieve herself. I'll never forget the look of fear in her eyes when the drugs set in, nor will I forget the her last sigh of relief she breathed as the pain finally stopped. Scout was the best dog I could have ever asked for and I miss her every day. R.I.P. Scout, fallen soldiers, and anyone else's beloved pet who is gone. Fuck I'm gonna go cry now.

For some reason I find this sadder than people crying, don't ask me why. It is good to see that over 1,500 people attended the funeral, he died making the ultimate sacrifice for us.

And that's why my dog will always be part of the family.

                      RIP Solider.

Maybe its because animals are so instinctual and have no reason to act the way the do for ulterior motive.... What the do, when they do it, is legit. I have a buddy who was a dog handler in the Marine Corps (deployed with his dog and everything) and was trying to get them to let him adopt the dog since he was getting ready to retire and the dog died (forget what he died of) and my buddy was devastated by this news. He has some really cool stories and was really sad to see his pup go.

Damn you for making me remember that with our Corgi earlier this year. It's the least we can do as owners though, be there, pet them and look them in the eyes. Sure is hard though. (My wife, a vet assistant (female), the Vet (female) and I whined the hardest)
