back in 08 i was ridding my Gsxr on 635 southbound towards hwy 30 with a buddy of mine. two exits before the hwy 30 exit lord and behold a damn extension ladder just laying there in the middle of the road taking up two lanes.
i tried to get my front wheel/weight up and get over it but my buddy did so first and moved the ladder just enough to lift it just as i was getting my front wheel up.
so then my front wheel hit the ladder bike goes up in the air flipping forward ejects me and send me in the same motion. all while im in the air i can see cars scrambling trying to stop and predict where ill land so they wont run me over. i can also see my damn bike finally land on both wheels just as perfect as can be and ever so gently drive into the nearest embankment and stays on!
i finally land on the other side of on-coming traffic and the first thing i remember thinking was damn am i alive?! then i got up as fast as i could and ran back through the southbound lanes and sat down next to my bike.
i dont remember if i had to wait for the ambulance or had someone pick me up this time ill have to ask foxy im sure she'll remember.

Moral of the story strap your damn ladders down!!!!!
and if you do loose them go back and pick them up!!

ugh i always dreaded those phone calls i went to go pick you up and your brother met us there. you were pretty good, at least you wore your gear

So, I just noticed that part of your post. Everyone should strap ANY load they have down tight. Drive a bit and then take out the slack. I don't care if you have a 3' 2x4 on a trailer, strap it down and make sure it ain't going any where.

Pay attention to your load and of course stop and take responsibility if something falls.

However, if people strapped shit down, these problems would go away. Everyday I see loads not secured at all bouncing around landscaping/utility/other trailers.

i agree 110% doesn't take long to secure it and check it once you've gone down the road a bit check it again.

I got one out of the left lane, west bound, of 183 a couple months back.

I was on my bike and saw people slamming on brakes and swerving this way and that. I slowed and was only going ~30ish by the time I saw it. Just pulled off far into the shoulder and dragged it out of the way, big ass ladder, it looked like it had been hit a few times and dragged a good bit judging by the rash on the ladder and pavement.

Not a ladder, but a couple weeks ago coming home from the Carrollton gtg I hit a couple of pallets that had just fallen off some guy's trailer.....and I hit them running about 80. Getting airborn at 80 after hitting some busted up pallets is not high on my list of "Fun things to do" !! Amazingly I didn't CRASH or fuck anything up under my truck.

I got hit by an 18 wheeler on 635 who said he was trying to avoid a ladder in the middle of the road. Driver just decided to avoid the ladder by moving into the far left (passing) lane and taking out me and two other vehicles. I will never understand why people don't strap their ladders down, hell have you priced one lately? They aren't cheap!!

No, fortunately. It was the portion of 121 where the grass is level with the shoulder. The Lexus behind me, however, could not swerve in time because he was riding my ass in the right lane and hit it going 75. I'm pretty sure both front tires went flat and he basically slid uncontrolled off into the right hand grass.

Fuck him. Anyone inches off another's bumper in the right lane when they're already going 5 over deserves what they get.
