  • so pepboys left the drain plug loose on the wives car.

dropped it off saturday to get the tires balance and rotated, and went ahead and got the oil changed also.she was driving home tonight and the oil light came on. she killed it as soon she saw the oil light and heard the engine making noise. i got there, checked it out. saw oil under the car and on the side. i put a couple of quarts of oil it and it poured right out of the bottom.

    2005 nissan altima 2.5.

    two question.
what are the chances of the motor actually surviving if the drain plug was replaced?

and if it is trashed, what advice can you give to get pepboys to take care of it?

If it's making noise, I would assume the engine is trash, and I would make the manager replace it.

cause we bought the tires there and had free balance and rotate. killing two birds with one stone. i just did not know i was gonna kill the motor with that same stone.

My dad works for an oil company and they use Chevy 3/4 ton pickups. One of the guys picked up a new one from the dealer a few towns away and drove it about 100 miles to the shop when he noticed the engine light, oil light, and just about every other warning light came on. Turned out the truck came from the factory with NO OIL in the engine AT ALL. Bone dry. Drove 100 miles like that with no damage; supposedly had Chevy check it out and they said everything was good to go. Your Nissan is probably fine since it did have oil in it, but I'd still be pissed because I am anal about that stuff on my vehicles. Keep an eye on it for damage, and at the least I would go to the manager and complain. Their reputation is now on the line so I'd see what I can get out if it AFTER I made sure there is no damage; you want to make sure they replace damaged equipment first, then go after "extra" compensation. If I were the manager I would kiss your ass to make it better, but that is me and I give a shit what customers think.

At the dealer I put several Mazda engines in for pepboys from the stupid stuff they did. They covered it all.

If it makes so much as a barely noticeable ticking sound, you should get a new engine courtesy of Manny, Moe, and Jack.
I recently took mine there to get a flat repair (because it was free) and I had to tell them 4 FUCKING TIMES that it was the left rear and not the right rear. They really do make the clowns at Walmart look like geniuses.

Shit, I missed the part about there being noise. I'd be calling them and your insurance and have it taken to a mechanic ASAP. Once the mechanic confirms damage your insurance company should unleash the dogs of war on their ass for destroying your engine. Fuck those guys.

That is the fourth or fifth time I have heard about Pepboys doing that. Couple guys on Stangnet went through this on their DD. Not sure what the outcome was. I will try and find the threads to maybe point you the right way.

My aunt had Walmart forget to put an oil filter in and 70 miles later her Jeeps 5.2 seized. Walmart bought her a new factory 5.2 and paid for R&R. Was almost $5000 and I think she paid $4500 for the Jeep. LOL!

I would think it would be nearly impossible to "find" damage unless it's actually making a weird noise. Things like your rod, cam and crank bearings or cylinder walls may be slightly scarred right now. It may drive fine for 10k miles and then BAM you spin a rod bearing...
