New Braunfels floats suck anyways. Cops ticket anybody with a cooler radio if it can be heard within 50ft. Fuck that town in general.

The San Marcos is a fun float, and zero cops/rules. Probably wont last forever, but it was a good time last month.

Well. You always have The Brazos River. Only an 1 1/2 hour away.

Ever since 74 they have TrashFest where scuba divera come from all over to dive the river and drift dive the length while picking up the bottom.

We were thinking about goin to it this year and get some easy cheap drift diving experience.

            Since 1980:

            205,000 pounds of trash
            310,000 cans and bottles
            353,400 pop-tops and bottle caps
            7,200 sunglasses and shoes

I've never been to the river that he speaks of so I can't compare. There is a drop off and pick up. There are areas to camp. Alcohol allowed.

If you go to Glen Rose there isn't any shade at all, just be prepared. I got burned very badly there even with sunblock. I've never had a problem in San Marcos or New Braunfels though.

I pulled a four foot gar out of the Brazos just north of highway 20 while I was bass fishing and I vowed to never float that river in a tube.

FWIW - Most people don't even float in the city limits of New Braunfels.

It still sucks though. When I was in school in San Marcos was when all these shenanigans were beginning.

Basically out-of-towner retirees were buying property on the river without realizing the river was popular with tourists. They got organized and got a lot of their own on the city council. They've been trying to kill the river tourism for years, tax base/businesses/employees/tourism/vacation property owners be damned.
