There are a ton of choices that would be better than a bass. I have a salt & a freshwater tank & hands down I like the SW better. Aqauriumadvice.com is a useful site, it has a iphone/ipad app also. Good luck.

I'm a salt guy,but I enjoy freshwater if Doe right. I have these in my sand pit. I've always wanted to do a tank with a breeding pair.

We had a small (about 9") largemouth bass as a pet for a long time in a 50 gal tank. Fed it live minnows twice a week... it was awesome to watch. He would hit them so hard that all you would see was scales floating to the bottom of the tank... it resembled glitter. He was the only fish we could keep in that tank, and after a few months we released him back into a local lake, but it was fun while it lasted.

I'm for the sun fish, in a 125 a couple of those would be good. But if I had a 125 it would be salt. FOSHO

Would love to do a salt one day, but they are damn expensive. This is going to be my first tank so it's gunna be trial and error my first go round.

Salt is just as easy as fresh. It just cost more. A simple base rock and sand will cost about the same as a fresh. You don't need fancy lights for that. If you add corals you will.

Another thing about salt tanks is patience. Nothing happens overnight. Algae blooms can last for months.

Any tank is better than no tank.

I kept some similar sunfish a while back. They lost their color within a day and remained a dull yellowish brown after that

i put a couple little sunfish i caught in it tonight along with 4 little zebra looking tetras i think. the little fish will eventually be food so im not to attached to them. the sunfish look good in there. i want to put a small catfish in the tank, prolly a store bought one that doesnt get huge, maybe a small flathead or channel cat if i catch a small enough one.

I still want to put a bass in here!

You probably threw them in before the cycle was complete...

                          Check your water parameters.

How did you get the game fish? (net? hook?)

You'll want to compare the water parameters in the lake (PH\temp) with the tank if at all possible.

If the parameters are way off or if the water is still cycling, the fish may not eat....

If they are wild, they also may not be used to flake food if that's what you are feeding them...

the tank is definitely colder than the pond i pulled them out of.. the cycle is most likely not complete, but the sand in the tank was in the tank when i bought it and it had fish in it before so it shouldn't take that long to cycle.. i will give them a couple days and see what happens. i used a hook and made sure the two i took werent hurt to bad by it.

thats a pretty fish, i have caught a few of them that colored but the ones i put in it yesterday arent nearly that good looking.. im going to try and get some different colored ones from a few different spot, as it seems the colors depend on where you catch them.
