  • Where to go fishing? Joe Pool Lake?

my son recently received some fishing equipment for his bday and is dying to go fishing. So i promised I would take him this weekend. Problem is, Im not really into it myself and havent gone since I was a kid myself.

I tried explaining that with the drought, heat, etc its not good time, but he isnt going for it and is so excited.

That being said, I need a place to go. I dont care what kind of fish we go for, he just wants to go. We live in mansfield, so I was thinking something close like Joe Pool or Lake Arlington? thanks ahead of time.

For the kid's first time, Joe Pool will do. I haven't been this year (obviously), but near the Oasis (Lynn Creek side), you can fish off the shore, but not that little bay by the restaurant or the boating dock area.

ok, i think i know where you are talking about... if your at the Oasis, you are talking about the opposite side of the dock right?

I would go to a fish farm first. Just to keep him entertained, and it is the easiest fishing you will ever do.

Not sure on your side of town. I just know, growing up, it was more fun to go to a farm since my attention span wasn't good enough to do it on the lake. We had good times on those catfish farms. I just know of a couple east of dallas..

I always see people fishing under the bridge at Joe pool on the south side. Not sure where you'd park though.

Or the state fisheries in Athens would be a good place that's cool.

if you are looking for a pay place Catfish Corner in Mesquite is a pretty decent place to go, they will catch fish, but you keep all you catch

There is a place called Samuel Farms off of 80 in Mesquite that has 2 ponds and is open Wed - Sun 9 - 5. You may want to check it out also.

There is that and the one off 175 before Crandall.

he is on the other side of town, so I didn't even bother telling him.

I dunno how far he's willing to go or how much time he's wanting to spend. BUT if he wants this to be exciting for kiddo, try to make the most out of it!

Not "near" Dallas but TPWD's Athens fish hatchery is a nice day trip. They have kid fishing, a huge aquarium, educational materials/tours, etc. Kids love it!

Yes. Use worm because there are a ton of catfish and it'll be like shooting fish in a barrel... except you're not shooting... and the fish aren't in a barrel.
