I'm not too opposed to a little pulling. Hell, There's only been one trip where we didnt have too, but anything more than 100 feet at a time starts to blow. That canoe with a cooler containing up to 36 beers gets real heavy. Also, this is our new (new to us) super nice fiberglass "Rough water Canoe", and I'd hate to gouge the bottom on its maiden voyage.

Not being a smart ass, but have you canoed much? The river is cool because most of the time there is a current, and if its too warm, we can hug a shore, and get some shade. There's also a goal, a destination to look forward to.

On a lake, sure your destination could be "lets canoe across the lake", but about 1/4 mile out, you'd be hating life.
            BTW, welcome back to Texas.

Per what my brother told me a few days ago, the water is very low and the water temp is very hot just a short distance from the damn, unless they are releasing water. Be prepared to get out and drag it a lot.

Fuck it. The trip is on. We need only 8'' of water, and the canoe is light enough for one person to carry. My 11 day vacation just started, and I'm doing shit.

I respect the collective opinion of DFW more than just about any other opinion available, no disrespect, but we're going for it.

Some of the best fishing I have ever done is on the Brazos below Possum Kingdom lake. That being said with a drought like this I wouldn't even consider it. I have done it once with very low water levels and it sucked ass.

Me and my Dad did that canoe trip at Whitney about 10 years ago. Would love to go do it again.

With the lake being 15' low I wouldn't think there would be much water in the river.

The river below the Lake Whitney damn is FAR different than what is between Possum Kingdom and the beginning of Lake Whitney.

Good luck, I hope you bring some water-tight hiking boots.

Thanks. Should be done at in the late afternoon.

We've got 24 Pearl Light beers, a 17' canoe, and a couple ham sandwiches. What could go wrong?

^ this! I am a Kayak Angler and if its a100 degrees out its always nice when youre a foot away from the water. I havent done whitney but I did the Brazos below hwy 16 bridge (below possum kingdom) last weekend. The water was nice, caught a bunch of fish and had a badass time. If anyone is ever doin a trip, post it up. I may be down!
